Keelerak are a breed of the spider-like Rahi Visorak.

History

Early history

A Keelerak on Visorak webbing

Keelerak were one of the seven Visorak breeds created by Makuta Chirox on an island south of Nynrah that was later renamed "Visorak". Their first victims were the indigenous people of the island.[3]

The Keelerak and the other Visorak were conquered by Makuta Gorast and became part of the Brotherhood's armies under Sidorak and Roodaka. Sidorak and Roodaka led the hordes throughout the Matoran Universe in subjugating islands and mutating thousands of beings. Several Keelerak wished to overthrow Sidorak, and then replace him with a Keelerak, but this did not happen before the hordes were disbanded.[4]

Invasion of Metru Nui

After Makuta Teridax's defeat at the hands of the Toa Metru, he telepathically called Sidorak and Roodaka to bring the hordes to Metru Nui.[5] A squadron of Visorak led by a Keelerak became separated from the horde en route.[6] While in Metru Nui, Keelerak captured the Toa Metru on their way to the Coliseum.[2] One of those Keelerak,[7] Kollorak, showed Sidorak the Toa trapped inside cocoons and was ordered to drop them to their deaths. The order was intercepted by Roodaka, who wished for the Toa to be injected with venom, then dropped.[2]

When the mutated Toa Hordika tried to rescue Turaga Dume from a Matoran Sphere, some Keelerak, Vohtarak, and Oohnorak trapped them on a bridge.[8] Several Keelerak fought against the Toa and Rahaga for a command tower in which the Visorak were trapped at the end of the battle, causing internal fights that allowed the Toa to win the tower.[9]

A few Keelerak attempted to stop Toa Hordika Nokama from obtaining her Makoki Stone, but failed.[10] More Keelerak tried to stop the Toa Hordika from claiming the Kanohi Avohkii, but Toa Hordika Onewa encased the mask in Stone, hiding its light from the Keelerak.[11]

After Vakama betrayed the Toa Hordika, the Keelerak and the other Visorak followed his command up until the end of the Battle of Metru Nui, when Vakama disbanded the hordes and most of the Keelerak left.[12][2]

The Dark Time

500 years later, the Keelerak's lost squadron of Visorak arrived in Metru Nui, believing they had arrived early. Twenty of the Visorak brought down Keetongu, while the Keelerak accosted the Rahaga and Turaga Dume. Despite Turaga Dume's warnings, the Keelerak advanced, but was captured by Pouks' lasso Rhotuka, then transformed into a spiked blob by Turaga Dume's Reconstitute at Random Kanoka disk.[6]

During the Dark Hunter-Brotherhood of Makuta War, the Brotherhood managed to partially reassemble the Visorak hordes, and used some of the Visorak, including Keelerak, to attack a Dark Hunter fortress that formerly belonged to the Brotherhood.[13]

All surviving Visorak, including the Keelerak, traveled to Artidax when three Toa Mahri placed the Heart of the Visorak there. After they arrived, volcanic eruptions triggered by the Order of Mata Nui wiped out the Keelerak and all the other Visorak breeds.[14]

Makuta Teridax recreated the Keelerak when he took control of the Matoran Universe, and the Keelerak followed his commands.[15][16] When Teridax was killed in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Keelerak became a wild species and emigrated to Spherus Magna.[17]

Kollorak

Kollorak[18][19] was a Keelerak who participated in the occupation of Metru Nui following the Great Cataclysm. It served closely under Sidorak, serving as his messenger and enacting some of his orders.[7]

Kollorak informing Sidorak of the Toa Metru's capture

After the Toa Metru returned to Metru Nui, Kollorak was part of the squad of Keelerak who captured them. Kollorak then went to the Coliseum and informed Sidorak of the Toa's capture.[2][7] It showed Sidorak to the Toa hanging in webs outside the Coliseum. It was then ordered by Sidorak to drop the Toa, but was stopped by Roodaka, who convinced Sidorak to have the Toa mutated first.[2]

Kollorak was dismissed along with the rest of the hordes by Vakama and subsequently left Metru Nui.[12][2] Kollorak's actions and whereabouts after that point are unknown. If it did not die beforehand, it died along with all the other Visorak when the Toa Mahri placed the Heart of the Visorak on Artidax.[14][16]

Abilities and Traits

Keelerak are undisciplined and wild, and also the most unpredictable of all Visorak species, wanting to fight one moment, then disappearing to do something else the next. Members of this breed are known to become schemers, and have plotted in the past to overthrow the leaders of the Visorak Horde and replace them with one of their own kind.[20][21]

Their Rhotuka's power is acid, allowing it to eat through almost any substance on contact, including Protosteel. Keelerak are also known to leap into the air and spin wildly as an attack, using their razor-sharp legs as buzzsaws.[20][21] They also have the standard Rhotuka power which paralyzes their victims.[2][22]

8746 Keelerak

8746 Visorak Keelerak was released as a canister set in the winter of 2004/2005 in Europe and in the summer of 2005 for North America. It contained 47 pieces, including a Rhotuka and Rhotuka Launcher.

Miniature Keelerak were released in the 2005 playsets 8757 Visorak Battle Ram, 8758 Tower of Toa, 8759 Battle of Metru Nui, and 8769 Visorak's Gate. The one-piece figure was molded in a blend of black and glow-in-the-dark plastic. Like the other mini Visorak, the mini Keelerak featured a clip between its mandibles with which it could grasp the Visorak webbing pieces included in each of the sets. The Keelerak could be distinguished from the other mini Visorak by the shape and texture of its mandibles.

A large model of a Keelerak was constructed entirely out of LEGO System Bricks and made available for promotional use. It was given away in a contest through Cartoon Network.[23]
