The Vako are horned rhinoceros-like Rahi beasts capable of great speed.[3][4]

History

The Vako species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[5]

A population of Vako made their home in Metru Nui. After the Great Cataclysm, these Vako fled the Visorak and migrated through the Great Barrier to the newly-created island of Mata Nui.[6] Here, Vako herds roamed the plains for approximately 1,000 years. Even Rahi infected by Teridax steered clear of the Vako. The Po-Matoran attempted to tame the Vako a few times, but without success.[3]

When the Bohrok swarms were awakened, deforestation of Le-Wahi caused herds of Vako and Fusa to flee deep into the Po-Wahi desert, where they competed with Husi flocks for food.[7]

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok on the island, the Vako migrated back to Metru Nui.[8]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Rahi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

Vako are horned creatures, capable of charging at great speeds, making them very dangerous to Matoran and even other Rahi. Vako live in herds.[3] Different variations of Vako were seen in both Ta-Wahi and Ko-Wahi, each slightly more adapted to their respective environments.[9]

Set Information

The Vako was released as part of the 10023 BIONICLE Master Builder Set. It used 54 of the set's 102 pieces.

Trivia

  • According to Issue 2 of Nintendo Power Advance, the Ko-Wahi variant of Vako is often referred to as "Ice Demons".
  • The Vako's name was not approved by The LEGO Group's legal department; therefore, Greg Farshtey could not include the Vako in any BIONICLE publications after 2002.[10][11] Despite this, Vako appear in the 2005 video game BIONICLE: Maze of Shadows and are referred to by name.
  • In some catalogues, the Vako is referred to as a dinosaur.[12]
