The Vako are horned Rahi beasts capable of great speed.
History
The Vako species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]
A population of Vako made their home in Metru Nui. After the Great Cataclysm, these Vako fled the Visorak and migrated through the Great Barrier to the newly-created island of Mata Nui.[4] Here, Vako herds roamed the plains for approximately 1,000 years. Even Rahi infected by Teridax steered clear of the Vako. The Po-Matoran attempted to tame the Vako a few times, but without success.[5]
When the Bohrok swarms were awakened, deforestation of Le-Wahi caused herds of Vako and Fusa to flee deep into the Po-Wahi desert, where they competed with Husi flocks for food.[6]
When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok on the island, the Vako migrated back to Metru Nui.[7]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Rahi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Vako are capable of charging at great speeds, making them very dangerous to Matoran and even other Rahi.[5] Different variations of Vako were seen in both Ta-Wahi and Ko-Wahi, each slightly more adapted to their respective environments.[8]

Trivia
- According to Issue 2 of Nintendo Power Advance, the Ko-Wahi variant of Vako is often referred to as "Ice Demons".
- The Vako's name was not approved by The LEGO Group's legal department; therefore, Greg Farshtey could not include the Vako in any BIONICLE publications after 2002.[9][10] Despite this, Vako appear in the 2004 video game BIONICLE: Maze of Shadows and are referred to by name.
