"The Waikiru is swift and agile in the water, but clumsy and slow-moving on land. Waikiru live and feed in groups, using their sturdy tusks to drive away Takea and other aquatic predators. They are not dangerous if treated with care, but they are quick to react to threats by charging or swimming away."

Waikiru are tusked, walrus-like aquatic Rahi.[2]

History

The Waikiru species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]

On Metru Nui, Waikiru could be found along the Ga-Metru shoreline. Following the Great Cataclysm, a group of Waikiru migrated to the newly-formed island of Mata Nui. Here, they established a colony in the Ga-Wahi region, where they lived for 1,000 years.

A storm created by Toa Mata Gali accidentally displaced several Waikiru. Feeling responsible, she then placed these Waikiru under her care.[2]

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok on the island, the Waikiru migrated back to Metru Nui.[4]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Waikiru left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

The agility of Waikiru when swimming is in sharp contrast to their slow and awkward movement on land. They use their tusks to defend themselves from threats, such as Takea,[2] when escape by swimming is not an option. If treated with care, they are gentle towards Matoran, but if threatened, they may charge, posing a formidable danger.[5]
