The Toa Terrain Crawler is a massive aquatic Rahi modified by Axonn.[2]

History

The Toa Terrain Crawler in Mahri Nui

The Toa Terrain Crawler once belonged to a species of Rahi that was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]

When the Great Cataclysm caused the Voya Nui area of the Southern Continent to rocket upwards to the surface of Aqua Magna, the Toa Terrain Crawler migrated to the waters of the planet and integrated into the ecosystem.[4]

After some time, it was caught by Order of Mata Nui member Axonn in the waters around Voya Nui. He modified the creature's armor, installing techno-organic mechanisms on its interior, armor plates to act as hatches, and weaponry. Axonn kept the creature chained in a chamber of the Cord.

After the Toa Mahri returned to the Cord with the Matoran of Mahri Nui, they encountered Axonn. Axonn swam through the flooded cord, directing the Toa Mahri to the chamber where the beast was held. He then directed the Toa to enter the creature. Slipping through its armor plates, the Toa Mahri were able to use the creature for transport to the base of the Cord. Once the Toa Mahri had reached their destination, they released the Toa Terrain Crawler.[5]

Abilities and Traits

The Toa Terrain Crawler

The Toa Terrain Crawler looks and moves more like a machine than like a living creature due to its heavy modifications. Its techno-organic appendages enable it to repair its occupants' battle-damaged Kanohi and armor and return them in an instant.[5] As well as healing damage done to its occupants, the Toa Terrain Crawler has a system which automatically heals it of any damage using chemicals. The only sea creatures which the Toa Terrain Crawler fears are Spider Crabs.[6] Its face is shaped in the semblance of a Kanohi Faxon.[7]

The Toa Terrain Crawler naturally possesses claws and antennae,[6], and has been artificially armed with a larger version of a Cordak Blaster.[8] The Toa Terrain Crawler has armor 60 centimeters (23.6 inch) thick and can reach a maximum speed of forty knots (74.1 kmph / 46.3 mph). It can house up to seven passengers: six inside, and one mounted on the outer Cordak Blaster.[6] The Rahi is quite smart, comparable in intelligence to an average dolphin.[9]
