Sidorak was a member of the upper-class Steltian species, and was also the king of the Visorak in the Brotherhood of Makuta.
Biography
Early life
Before leading the Visorak, Sidorak held a position of minor power on his homeland of Stelt. He quickly advanced in the eyes of his leaders by claiming credit for the victories obtained below him. If a commander below him objected to his credit-stealing, Sidorak would dispatch him on a dangerous mission from which that commander would not return.[1] He also betrayed his clan leader, Voporak, who was mutated by the Makuta of Stelt.[2] 7,000 years ago[3], Sidorak attempted to join the Dark Hunters, but he was defeated by the Dark Hunter Gladiator during his entry test. His life was spared, but he was denied membership and returned to his homeland.[4]
Brotherhood of Makuta
The number of successes attributed to Sidorak attracted the attention of the Brotherhood of Makuta, who recruited him into their ranks sometime between 7,000 and 3,000 years ago[3], where he quickly rose to power. At first, Sidorak was a simple courier between the Brotherhood of Makuta and the island of Xia; it was during this job that he and and the Vortixx Roodaka first met.[5] Eventually, Makuta Teridax, Sidorak's mentor,[6] made Sidorak a lieutenant along with Roodaka, and the two constantly competed for Teridax's favor. Sidorak, however, also hoped to forge an alliance with Roodaka to gain political power on Xia.[5] When the Toa Hagah were transformed into Rahaga by Roodaka after their rebellion, Sidorak took credit for the idea. Teridax, in turn, made him king of the Visorak horde, with Roodaka as his viceroy.[1] Although he led the Visorak to victory on many occasions, Sidorak was insecure about his position as their leader, which Roodaka noticed.[7]
At Teridax's behest, Sidorak and Roodaka invaded Metru Nui, and took the Coliseum as their main base. When the Visorak reported that the Toa Metru were captured, Sidorak ordered them killed. However, Roodaka halted the Visorak and suggested Sidorak kill the Toa with greater spectacle. Sidorak agreed, calling instead for a mutation and disposal. However, the newly-made Toa Hordika were rescued by the Rahaga.[8]
While Matau and Iruini searched for Airship parts in a Le-Metru hanger, Sidorak attacked the hangar with an army of Visorak, giving orders from a tower. More of the Toa Hordika and Rahaga arrived, accompanied by Krahka and the Tahtorak. To turn the tide in the battle, Sidorak ordered a Kahgarak to release the Zivon. Shortly before the Zivon's arrival, Whenua and Bomonga emerged from the Zone of Darkness into Sidorak's tower, and were captured. However, the Tahtorak later tossed the Zivon into the tower, shaking its foundation and knocking Sidorak from the tower. He survived by clinging to a Visorak web, and escaped as the Toa captured the tower, plotting their demise.[9]
Sidorak watched as Vakama approached the Coliseum and banged on its doors and demanded to enter, claiming to have betrayed the other Toa. Sidorak was skeptical, until Vakama presented five of the Rahaga, whom he had captured. Sidorak then invited Vakama inside.
Sidorak met Vakama, and Roodaka, in the Coliseum's throne room. Roodaka suggested that Vakama was a fitting master for the Visorak horde, but Sidorak refused, on the grounds that one field commander was not enough to lead the horde. Roodaka explained that Vakama would capture and train the other Toa, and urged Sidorak to consider the Toa an engagement gift. Eager to gain influence on Xia through their alliance, Sidorak agreed, and made Vakama a commander of the Visorak. Sidorak saw an echo of his ambition in Vakama, and after a congenial conversation, introduced the Toa Hordika to the Visorak horde.
Sidorak, Roodaka, and Vakama awaited the coming of the remaining Toa Hordika and Rahaga. When they attacked the Coliseum, Sidorak noticed a persistent noise, and discovered the legendary Keetongu scaling the building, to his shock. Sidorak attempted to knock Keetongu from his perch, but missed repeatedly. After Roodaka felled Keetongu, she urged Sidorak to accompany her to Keetongu and ensure that he was truly dead. Sidorak found Keetongu badly wounded, and offered Roodaka the final blow, but she instead abandoned him with the maddened Rahi. As Keetongu got to his feet, Sidorak realized the true depth of Roodaka's deceptions and betrayal, and for the first time, gave credit to the cunning of a subordinate. Keetongu then crushed Sidorak beneath his fists, killing him.[8]
Because Keetongu severely damaged Sidorak's head, Sidorak was unable to be revived on the Red Star. He remains deceased as a result.[10]
Legacy
As a result of setting up Sidorak to die, members of his Steltian clan came to seek revenge on Roodaka.[11] When the Federation of Fear visited Stelt, Brutaka offered to hand Roodaka over to a trader of Sidorak's species in exchange for a ship. The trader believed the exchange would make him rich, but Brutaka's crew instead knocked the trader out and stole his ship.[12]
Abilities and Traits
Sidorak was said to be a skilled commander and manipulator.[1] However, he had little passion for subtlety, preferring to utilize brute force and overwhelm his enemies, as he attempted to do by summoning the Zivon in Le-Metru. [9] His reputation as a manipulator may also have been overrated, as he was easily out-maneuvered by Roodaka.
Sidorak's primary combat asset was his impressive strength as he was far stronger than a Toa.[1] Given a launcher, Sidorak could fire an Obedience Rhotuka, a powerful spinner that forced its victims to follow Sidorak's commands.[13]
Tools
Sidorak wielded a Herding Blade on his arm, which could be used to summon the Visorak to his side and communicate with them[13] or to fire a powerful beam of energy.[14] However, he was not particularly effective with his aim.[14]
Sidorak also possessed a Rhotuka Launcher, through which he could access his Obedience Rhotuka.
Set Information
Sidorak was released in 2005 as one of the Titan sets. The set included 211 pieces. Gears on his shoulders allowed his arms to be swung. His herding blade could switch from an inactive to active position, and a claw held his silver Rhotuka spinner until one chose to manually release their grip and fire the spinner. He could be combined with Keetongu to create Sentrakh, or with both Keetongu and Roodaka to create Voporak. Sidorak could be found packaged with Toa Iruini.
