Protodite
"Each contained a portion of his consciousness and could function independently of his body as a whole. This allowed him to send parts of himself on the attack as a swarm, or fly, to evade physical attacks more easily, and to slip through spaces too small for an insect."
— Narrator, Legacy of Evil

Protodites are hostile microscopic Rahi that duplicate after being hit.
History
Protodites were created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[4]
A sample of Protodites was once held in the Onu-Metru Archives. While the creatures were being studied, a Kraawa's escape attempt rocked and shattered the Protodites' container. The Protodites quickly spread throughout the Archives, but their population was kept in check by the Archives Moles that preyed upon them.[5][2]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Protodites left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Zaktan's Protodites
When the Skakdi Zaktan was exposed to the Shadowed One's disintegration eye beams, his body mass was transformed into a swarm of billions of Protodites rather than being disintegrated. These Protodites never stopped moving, so Zaktan's body always appeared to be writhing.[6][7] He could use some of the Protodites to create his primary weapon, the Three-Bladed Scissor.
The number of Protodites making up Zaktan's body was greatly reduced when he was exposed to the Pit Mutagen.[8] All of Zaktan's Protodites later became part of the Golden Being.[9]
Protodax
Protodax are Toa-sized Protodites enlarged by the power of the Kanohi Ignika. They guarded the 777 Stairs on Voya Nui and would attack anyone attempting to steal the Mask of Life. At least one of them took a Zamor Sphere Launcher from a fallen foe.
The Toa Inika encountered a group of six Protodax during their Quest for the Mask of Life. During the fight, one of the Toa, Kongu, used his Suletu, the Mask of Telepathy, to discover that the Protodax were once Protodites. The Protodax had the Toa surrounded before being driven away by Umbra.[10]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Protodax left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Protodites are microscopic in stature.[2] They are two-headed creatures with lizard-like tails and razor-sharp talons.[11] When a Protodite is physically struck, it splits into two Protodites of equal size and strength, provided the Proodite is intact - due to their size, they are easily destroyed by physical blows.[12] Archives Moles are the Protodites' only predator.[5][2] Protodites are able to fly.[13]
Protodax look identical to regular Protodites in form but are many times larger, having been enlarged to the size of a Toa. Like Protodites, Protodax possess the ability to split themselves into two equally large and strong beings after being struck with a weapon or power.[3] The Protodax were incredibly ill-tempered[10] and acted with extreme hostility toward all other living things, especially those who sought the Kanohi Ignika.[14] However, unlike Protodites, Protodax cannot fly.[15]
Tools
At least one Protodax carries a Zamor Sphere Launcher taken from a being who unsuccessfully tried to claim the Ignika. The launcher can fire Zamor Spheres whose powers permanently shrink a target down to a microscopic size, leaving the victim at the mercy of hostile Protodites.[14]
Set Information
The Protodax can be built out of parts from the Piraka sets 8901 Hakann, 8903 Zaktan, and 8904 Avak using instructions included in the May–June 2006 issue of LEGO Brickmaster magazine. Its two heads each feature a battery-powered LED in their eyes, which are activated by pressing on the top of the head. The model was designed by Daniel Lipkowitz.
Quotes
"That 'body made of multiple little pieces' thing is a neat trick. Must be lousy when you sneeze, though."
— Toa Nuva Tahu to Piraka Zaktan, Island of Doom
"The Protodax are violent beasts. They do not kill with honor – they simply kill."
— Umbra, Inferno
