The sand snipes are tiny insect-like Rahi.

History

The sand snipe species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.^[2]

A population of sand snipes made their home in the arid district of Po-Metru on Metru Nui.^[3]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving sand snipes left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.^[1]

Abilities and Traits

Sand snipes are a pest to the Matoran because they often burrow underneath Matoran armor and bite the organic tissue beneath. They are easily trapped: accustomed to barren regions, they are captivated by the sight of Liquid Protodermis, and sometimes dive into a puddle of it and drown in an instant. This odd behavior led to the Matoran expression "foolish as a sand snipe."^[3]
