"This rare Voya Nui Rahi, the lava crawler, has been repurposed by the Piraka into a war machine. Its hard shell has been partially cut away to make room for a battle platform with multi-zamor sphere launcher. The massive, ill-tempered creature is difficult for even the Piraka to control, as it is easily distracted by the lava streams of Mount Valmai."

Lava Crawlers are large, six-legged crawling Rahi.

History

The Lava Crawler species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[2]

Lava Crawlers established a small colony in the Voya Nui region of the Southern Continent, particularly around Mount Valmai. When the Great Cataclysm caused Voya Nui to rocket upwards to the surface of Aqua Magna, these Lava Crawlers were carried with it and survived the ascent. They continued to live on the island of Voya Nui for 1,000 years. One was domesticated and modified by the Piraka into the Caravan Crawler through a process in which part of its shell was cut away to accommodate a Zamor Launcher and potentially a rider.[LEGO BrickMaster]

When the Toa Mahri destroyed the Cord and returned Voya Nui to its former position on the Southern Continent, its Lava Crawler population, including the Caravan Crawler, may not have survived the descent.[3]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, any surviving Lava Crawlers left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

Lava Crawlers are naturally drawn to lava streams. They are ill-tempered, making them difficult to domesticate. Even the Piraka had difficulty controlling their Caravan Crawler.[LEGO BrickMaster]

Lava Crawlers are massive in size and have a hard shell. The Caravan Crawler's shell was partially cut away to make room for a multi-Zamor Sphere Launcher and a battle platform for a rider, with the intent of turning this Rahi into a war machine.[LEGO BrickMaster]

Set Information

The Caravan Crawler could be built using parts from the 8892 Piraka Outpost and 8893 Lava Chamber Gate playsets and instructions from the September–October 2006 issue of LEGO BrickMaster Magazine. Its Zamor Launcher featured a cartridge piece that increased its capacity to four Antidermis Zamor Spheres.
