"The ghekula is an amphibious creature found in the swamps beneath Le-Koro on the island of Mata Nui. The activities of the Bohrok have forced the gekula [sic] to migrate, and many of them are seeking the calmer waters near Ga-Koro. The ghekula are regarded highly by the Matoran, and it is considered bad luck to hurt one."

Ghekula are peaceful amphibious Rahi.

History

The Ghekula species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]

Some Ghekula were found in the waters around Metru Nui.[4] After the Great Cataclysm, many migrated to the newly-formed island of Mata Nui, where they established themselves in the Fau Swamp of Le-Wahi. At some point before the coming of the Toa Mata, the unscrupulous Po-Matoran Ahkmou organized a scheme of selling "lucky Ghekula" to superstitious Matoran. This was stopped by the Turaga.[2]

Ghekula began to spread to the calmer waters of Ga-Wahi as the activities of the Bohrok drove them from their usual habitat.[5]

After the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, the Ghekula followed.[6]

When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Ghekula emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

Ghekula are amphibious Rahi that dwell in swamps. They are considered to be a natural enemy of the Bog Snake. Harming a Ghekula, whether intentionally or accidentally, is considered by Matoran to be a harbinger of bad luck.[2]
