The Sand Tarakava are elusive, specialized relatives of the Tarakava species.
History
The Sand Tarakava species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]
A population of Sand Tarakava once lived in Metru Nui, making their home in Po-Metru.[4] After the Great Cataclysm, they fled the Visorak hordes and immigrated to the island of Mata Nui, where they lived for 1,000 years.[2] Most Sand Tarakava resided in the beaches of Ga-Wahi[citation needed] and the deserts of Po-Wahi,[2] and shared their territory with other large Rahi, including the Nui-Jaga.[citation needed] Makuta Teridax used Infected Kanohi to control the Sand Tarakava in his assault on the Matoran of Mata Nui.[5]
When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Sand Tarakava migrated back to Metru Nui.[6]
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Sand Tarakava left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Sand Tarakava are slightly smaller than their Tarakava relatives. Their hunting method is to hide under the sand and wait for unsuspecting prey to come near.[4] These Rahi are enemies of the Kikanalo, and they prey upon weak or injured members of the herd.[2]
Trivia
- The physical model representing the Sand Tarakava was a prototype of the retail Tarakava set provided to Saffire, Inc. by The LEGO Group, in order to assist with the development of BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui video game. The prototype was later sold on eBay by a former employee of Saffire, Darvell D. Hunt, who won it in a team bowling tournament.[7] The prototype included different treads and a yellow noble Ruru, which was never released in sets.[8] Although the yellow Sand Tarakava does not physically appear, the standard Tarakava's appearances in The Legend of Mata Nui and Mata Nui Online Game more closely resemble this prototype model.
