Lava Rats are small, rodent-like Rahi.
History
The Lava Rat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[2]
After the Great Cataclysm, a small population of Lava Rats migrated to Mata Nui, and took up residence in Ta-Wahi for 1,000 years.[3] These Lava Rats migrated back to Metru Nui when the Toa Nuva unleashed the Bohrok on the island.[4]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Lava Rats left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Lava Rats are known for their ability to burst into flames as a defense mechanism, a fire to which they are immune.[3] They also possess horns.[5]
Trivia
- A tale told on Mata Nui described a Lava Rat and a Takea shark crossing a river.[5] Velika also told a tale about a pair of Lava Rats trying to cross a chasm.[6]
