"Kratana" are mysterious Rahi[1] that have the power to see and share visions into the future and the past.

History

The "Kratana" species was created by the Order of Mata Nui.[2] Toa Helryx used a "Kratana" to record the adventures of the Toa Mata during their time on Daxia and in Karda Nui in the earliest days of the Matoran Universe.[3]

Makuta Teridax once caught a large group of "Kratana" in his lair, Mangaia, and became fascinated by their nature. Working together, the creatures escaped the vat, broke into a Bohrok Nest, and took control of a swarm of Bohrok.[4] During their travels through the Maze of Shadows, the Toa Metru encountered several of these Bohrok.[5]

Approximately 1,001 years ago, a "Kratana" attached itself to Toa Metru Onewa in Mangaia and gave him a vision of the Visorak. This "Kratana" was incinerated by Vakama.[6] A few months later, a "Kratana" attacked Vakama in Teridax's Po-Metru Lair and gave him a vision of Krakua. It was then pulled off of Vakama's face by Teridax.[7]

1,001 years later, Helryx gave Takanuva the "Kratana" used to record the Toa Mata so that he could see their past and the dangers which they would face when they reawakened Mata Nui's body.[8]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, all surviving "Kratana" emigrated from the Matoran Universe and onto Spherus Magna.[9][10]

Abilities and Traits

A "Kratana" resembles a cross between a krana and a Kraata. It has a long body with detailed ridge marks along its length like a Kraata, and affixes itself to a being's face much like a krana does, although they can still attach themselves even if their target is wearing a mask. A "Kratana" is slightly larger than a krana,[11] and they can also move incredibly quickly.[6][7][4] They also differ from the krana in that they are not parasitic.[12][13]

"Kratana" have the natural ability to show others visions of the future and the past once they have attached themselves to the face or mask of their target.[6][14] "Kratana" are sentient,[15] and while they typically act independently, they are able to communicate telepathically with nearby members of their species, forming a hive-mind.[4]

Much like krana, the "Kratana" were able to fit inside the faceplate of a Bohrok, albeit it with very little room, and take control of the machines.[4][5]

Quotes

"I don't know. Those were not my words, not my thoughts. I remember.... something.... something horrible, everywhere.... stealers of life....but I cannot see more."
Onewa to the other Toa Metru, Maze of Shadows
