Kuma-Nui are huge rat-like Rahi.

History

The Kuma-Nui species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]

On Metru Nui, Kuma-Nui lived in the maintenance tunnels below the Archives, particularly below Ta-Metru and Ko-Metru.[2]

After the Great Cataclysm, a small number of these Rahi migrated to Mata Nui. Since they were especially dangerous, Koro defense forces regularly dispatched patrols to keep them away from the Matoran villages.[2] Many were enslaved by Makuta Teridax using Infected Kanohi. Toa Mata Kopaka once battled with one on his way to Po-Wahi, but when he knocked its mask off, the Kuma-Nui fled.[4]

The Kuma-Nui migrated back to Metru Nui when the Toa Nuva unleashed the Bohrok on the island.[5]

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kuma-Nui left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

Kuma-Nui appear to be just as ferocious as a Muaka or Kane-Ra, and at least the same size, with large claws and a massive mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth. Like the two aforementioned Rahi, they have tread-like motor appendages instead of hind legs.

Set Information

A Kuma-Nui in set form

The Kuma-Nui can be built out of 8538 Muaka & Kane-Ra, released in 2001. Squeezing its midsection caused it to thrust its head forward while opening its mouth and then snapping it shut. The two masks were attached to rods which when removed caused its arms to fall off as if in injury.
