Gate Guardians are predatory Rahi with illusory powers.

The Gate Guardian species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[1]

After the Visorak horde invaded Metru Nui, Gate Guardians became servants of the horde. The duty of these Rahi was to guard key settlements, although not as vital as those guarded by Kahgarak.[2]

Nokama and Gaaki once encountered a Gate Guardian at the Great Temple. Nokama was unable to defeat it with her blows and suffered due to its attacks until Gaaki realized the nature of the Rahi. Nokama used a Water Rhotuka to discover it and defeated the creature.[3]

1,000 years later, the Visorak were all destroyed on Artidax, and as such, the Gate Guardians are no longer affiliated with the Visorak.[citation needed]

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Gate Guardians emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.[OGDi: Apr 4 2010, 12:11 PM][OGDi: Apr 7 2010, 01:19 PM]

Abilities and Traits

These creatures have the ability to project an image of themselves about two or three times smaller than them, while their real body remains invisible. The projected image repeats the actions of the real Guardian. Enemies often exhaust themselves trying to defeat the small image when their true opponent is hiding from view.[3]

Set Information

The Gate Guardian can be built out of the Visorak canister sets 8742 Vohtarak and 8744 Oohnorak, using instructions included in the back of each set's instruction manual. Its body features a Rhotuka Launcher and silver Rhotuka spinner on either side. Pressing either side of its body causes its mandibles on the corresponding side to squeeze together.

"It is no Matoran, or Matoran creation. It is a creature that should not exist."
"Should not exist, but obviously does."
