"Ko-Metru is no place to climb. Slip and fall to your doom, sure, but not climb. The trick to catching Crystal Climbers is getting to them, since they favor the highest points in a Knowledge Tower. Then, once you have them snagged with a spinner, make sure they don't fall off the tower — they make a heck of a mess down below."
Rahaga Iruini, Rahi Beasts

Crystal Climbers are predatory Rahi with a predisposition for precipitous hunting grounds.

History

The Crystal Climber species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[2]

On Metru Nui, Crystal Climbers made their homes on the Knowledge Towers of Ko-Metru, scurrying from one icy rooftop to the next. Though the Crystal Climbers fed on Ice Bat pests, the Ko-Matoran did not welcome the presence of Crystal Climbers, since they were particularly difficult to remove from a suitable hunting ground. Entire Knowledge Towers had to be closed down while Vahki tried to root them out.[3]

Some Crystal Climbers later made their way to Ko-Wahi on Mata Nui, settling in the Mount Ihu region for 1,000 years.[4] After the Ko-Matoran returned to Metru Nui, the Crystal Climbers followed.[5]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Crystal Climbers emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

Each Crystal Climber has sharp claws that can hold on to cold and slippery surfaces, and use their long, thin tails for balance. They have excellent night vision, and their glowing red eyes were a common sight on a Ko-Metru evening.[3]

Crystal Climbers form small, tight-knit groups and react ferociously to intrusions from other species. It has been theorized that too many Crystal Climbers on a Knowledge Tower could cause a Tower to collapse, so the Rahi have learned not to congregate in large numbers.[3]

The Crystal Climbers' preferred prey are Ice Bats.[4]
