"The Pokawi jungle fowl is a small, flightless bird of Le-Wahi with a loud 'pok-pok-pok' call. Pokawi spend their entire lives on the marshy jungle floor, hunting for edible insects and fallen fruits or seeds. When a flock of Pokawi is surprised by a Rahi, each hops away in a different direction, creating a bewildering explosion of sound and color that confuses the predator and helps the birds to escape."

Pokawi are small, flightless bird-like Rahi.

History

The Pokawi species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[2]

In the Po-Metru district of Metru Nui, Pokawi lived in the rocky crags of the undeveloped sections of the desert.[1]

Following the Great Cataclysm, a population of Pokawi migrated to the newly-formed island of Mata Nui. Here, they established a habitat in the undergrowth of the Le-Wahi jungle, where they lived for 1,000 years.[1]

When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Pokawi migrated back to Metru Nui.[OGDi]

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Pokawi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[OGDi: Apr 4 2010, 12:11 PM][OGDi: Apr 7 2010, 01:19 PM]

Abilities and Traits

Pokawi feed on small insects, fruits, seeds, and low-lying vegetation. Its distinctive 'pok-pok-pok' can be heard from quite a distance.

On Metru Nui, the Rahi were rarely faced with any predators due to their high vantage point. On the island of Mata Nui, Pokawi mastered a defensive technique against threatening Rahi, which entailed scattering in all directions and bewildering the foe with the sudden blast of noise and color.[1]
