The Lava Eels are Heat-loving Rahi with extremely intense body temperatures. They are related to Venom Eels.[3]

The Lava Eel species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[4]

On Metru Nui, Ta-Matoran sometimes found young Lava Eels near the forges and kept them as pets at home. When the eels eventually became too big and destructive, the Matoran were forced to abandon them.[5] Lava Eels were known to frequent Ta-Metru's furnaces, Reclamation Yards, and even the Archives.[6]

During the Great Rescue, Toa Hordika Vakama found a piece of the Makoki Stone at the end of a metal beam in a furnace infested with Lava Eels. As he retrieved the stone, a Lava Eel melted through the beam and caused him to plummet to danger, until he was saved by Onewa.[7]

Some Lava Eels also lived in Mount Valmai,[1] in the Voya Nui region of the Southern Continent. These Lava Eels survived Voya Nui's ascent to the surface of Aqua Magna during the Great Cataclysm, but may not have survived its return to its rightful place after the Toa Mahri destroyed the Cord.[8]

After the destruction of the Great Spirit Robot, many Lava Eels left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[2]

Spiked Lava Eels

Spiked Lava Eels are variants of the Lava Eel species that are covered in spines.[9]

Mutated Lava Eel

During his experiments in Mangaia, Makuta Teridax created a six-legged Lava Eel with a limited lifespan. The Toa Metru came across the deceased mutation during their journey through his lair.[10]

Abilities and Traits

Lava Eels are naturally hot enough to melt pebbles on contact, and they can heat up even more if they are agitated, to the point they can melt through anything when they reach a state of total anxiety. However, Lava Eels are not naturally aggressive, just curious. They start their life cycle being very small and become larger after time.[5]
