Mahi are small goat-like Rahi.

History

The Mahi species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[4]

A population of Mahi took up residence in Metru Nui.[5] After the Great Cataclysm, the Mahi of Metru Nui migrated with the Matoran to the island of Mata Nui. On Mata Nui, flocks of Mahi were mostly found in Po-Wahi,[6] though a breed of purple Mahi made their homes in Le-Wahi and Ta-Wahi, while red Mahi roamed the snowy fields of Ko-Wahi.[7] The Po-Matoran of Po-Koro recognized the Mahi as useful livestock and domesticated them to pull carts. Because of their high value, they were often traded at the Po-Koro Market.[8] Hapaka were also trained to guard Mahi herds and Husi flocks.[9] Herding them was challenging, but it was a way of learning the skill of Strategy. Golyo herded Mahi in a small pen on the outskirts of Po-Koro.[10]

Hahli training in Strategy

When the Bohrok-Kal attacked Mata Nui, Gahlok-Kal magnetized several Mahi to Toa Nuva Pohatu, successfully incapacitating him. They were removed by Takua and Jaller during the Toa Nuva's mission to track down and confront the Bohrok-Kal.[6] During the Kolhii Tournament, the Ga-Matoran Hahli visited Golyo and trained in Strategy by catching escaping Mahi.[10]

The Mahi returned to Metru Nui with the Matoran following Toa Takanuva's defeat of Makuta Teridax.[11]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, all surviving Mahi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Fire Mahi

Fire Mahi are a subspecies of the Mahi which lived in Ta-Wahi. 1,000 years into the Great War, a group of Fire Mahi, under the influence of Teridax, abducted Turaga Vakama. Takua defeated these Rahi and obtained the key to Vakama's prison.[7]

Abilities and Traits

Wild Mahi live alone or in herds. Variants are especially equipped for tropical, cold, and volcanic environments. They tend to be territorial, quickly charging down anything that approaches and then ramming them with their dangerous horns.[7] Despite this, Mahi can be domesticated by Matoran, making them useful livestock.[8]

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 Greg Farshtey provided this pronunciation on the BZPower forums, where the slang term "mah" was filtered to its standard form "my."[3] As such, the pronunciation was listed as "my-hee" instead of the intended "Mah-hee."
