Keras
"The Keras coral crab is a reclusive reef-dwelling creature, famed for protecting its undersea home with great ferocity. The Gahlok have driven a number of Keras onto the beaches of Mata Nui, and volunteers from the Onu-Matoran Ussalry have helped the villagers of Ga-Koro to tame a few as partners in the struggle against the Bohrok swarms. Outfitted with special riding plates, these fierce and clever crabs can carry riders across both sea and land. They contentedly serve as defenders of the village in exchange for shelter from the sun and a meal of fresh fish."

History
The Keras species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]
In Metru Nui, the Keras lived in the Silver Sea off of Ga-Metru.[2]
After the Great Cataclysm, several Keras came to occupy the reefs of Ga-Wahi. The activities of the Bohrok swarms, namely Gahlok, forced many of this species onto the beaches of Mata Nui, where they were tamed by the Ga-Koro Guard with help from the Onu-Koro Ussalry. The Keras were fitted with special riding plates which allowed them to transport Matoran from place to place either by land or by sea.[4]
In the Pit, the Barraki Carapar had a large number of these creatures in his army. The Pit Mutagen in the waters there caused these specimens to become vicious. After the Kanohi Ignika enlarged a Venom Eel, the eel ate several hundred of the Keras.[5]. More of the crabs took control of the Fields of Air temporarily, and the Mahri Nui Matoran sent the Toa Mahri to force them out, but the crabs retreated on their own accord when the Barraki came to negotiate with the Toa.[6] Carapar was later recaptured by Hydraxon,[7] and the Keras were released from his command.[citation needed]
A few months later, Mata Nui restored Spherus Magna, including Aqua Magna. He used the Mask of Life to reverse the Pit Mutagen-mutated Keras' mutations.[8][9] These Keras continue to live underwater. The ones in the Mata Nui Robot, which was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, then immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Keras are highly reclusive and territorial. They are sensitive to high levels of sunlight, and feed on fish, both of which offered Mata Nui's Ga-Matoran a way to repay the Keras for their aid in the Bohrok War.[4]
