Phase Dragons are speed-loving Rahi.
History
The Phase Dragon species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[2]
In Metru Nui, the Phase Dragons used to chase Airships and vehicles speeding along the Le-Metru Test Track, as well as other Rahi. After the Great Cataclysm emptied Metru Nui of most activity, they would pursue anything that moved, sometimes charging to get something to run and accidentally causing harm.[3]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Phase Dragons left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Although they may look frightening, Phase Dragons have a surprisingly gentle personality. Their name comes from their uncanny ability to become intangible, they shift to a ghost-like form and are able to "phase" through solid objects. This was a useful ability on the Le-Metru Test Tracks, because at high speeds they were likely to hit something hard once in a while.[3]
Trivia
The Phase Dragon was an entry sent in to LEGO by BZPower member Locutus of Bohrok as part of the LEGO Magazine Rahi Building Challenge. It was given a name and story role by Greg Farshtey in the book BIONICLE: Rahi Beasts.
