Amphibax is a ruthless Dark Hunter who specializes in underwater operations.

Biography

More than 80,000 years ago, Amphibax served in Ehlek's army in the League of Six Kingdoms. After a surprise attack by the Brotherhood of Makuta, Ehlek and the other Barraki disappeared. Amphibax spent some time wandering the seas, searching for Ehlek, and lost a hand at some point during his travels.

Eventually, Amphibax was recruited into the Dark Hunters, who outfitted him with a spined whip in place of his lost hand. Amphibax's missions usually included attacks on ships of the Brotherhood of Makuta or raids on islands inhabited by Matoran.

After the Piraka defected from the Dark Hunters, Amphibax was assigned to monitor them from the seas around Voya Nui. He had no idea about the Barraki and Mahri Nui below the island, for he was only concerned with events on the surface. After Voya Nui's return to the Southern Continent, Amphibax returned to Odina, where he awaited his next assignment.

The Order of Mata Nui soon came out of hiding and allied with the Dark Hunters in its war against the Brotherhood. The Dark Hunters, Amphibax included, assembled a fleet and sailed to Xia, which they occupied.

When Teridax took over the universe, Amphibax and other Dark Hunters assisted in the efforts of rebellion against his rule.

After the Mata Nui Robot suffered crippling damage in the Battle of Bara Magna, Amphibax and the other surviving inhabitants of the Matoran Universe migrated to Spherus Magna.

Abilities and Traits

Amphibax is known for having the ruthlessness of a Takea Shark and the mind of a thief. He is the Shadowed One's first pick in underwater related operations.

Amphibax is a strong swimmer beneath the seas and is able to survive at great depths for long periods of time. On land, he is adept at climbing trees and is a swift sprinter. He also has enhanced hearing and eyesight.

Amphibax has a spined whip in place of one of his hands and sharp claws on the other.

• Amphibax was created by Willy Reese, sent into the LEGO Magazine Dark Hunter Building Challenge, and was given a storyline role by Greg Farshtey and put into the book BIONICLE: Dark Hunters.
• Unlike most characters in BIONICLE: Dark Hunters, Amphibax is listed under his real name, not a code name.
• Amphibax's image in BIONICLE: Dark Hunters is mirrored as evidenced by the pattern of the ripcord's head. His un-mirrored image was used in BIONICLE: Encyclopedia Updated and in BIONICLE: Makuta's Guide to the Universe. The image at the top of this article originated from BIONICLE: Dark Hunters but has been flipped to match the later publications.
