Zamor Sphere Launchers,[2] also called Zamor Launchers,[3] are the primary launching mechanisms for Zamor Spheres.

History

The Zamor Launchers were first created by the Nynrah Ghosts at least 80,000 years ago. Zamor Launchers were used by Toa Jovan and his team around 79,100 years ago.[4][2]

2,999 years ago, the ancient weapons were redesigned by the Nynrah Ghosts.[2] As one of their first team missions, the Dark Hunter duo of Nidhiki and Krekka worked with Lariska to steal the prototypes and destroy the machinery used to make them.[5] While Nidhiki and Krekka were instructed to keep the Dark Hunters' involvement in the mission a secret, the Order of Mata Nui learned of the thieves' affiliations regardless. News reached Xia as well, and the Dark Hunters were unwelcome on the island for a while.[6]

Hewkii launching a Zamor Sphere

1,000 years after the Great Cataclysm, a group of Dark Hunters abandoned the organization and named themselves the Piraka. They traveled to Voya Nui to search for the Ignika, where Avak constructed seven Zamor Launchers from materials salvaged from the Toa Canisters that they had stolen to reach the island. The Piraka used these to fire Zamor Spheres and enslaved the Matoran on Voya Nui with Antidermis.[7]

A group of Matoran soon stole one of the Piraka's Zamor Launchers.[7] After studying it, the group's inventor, Velika, built a set of launchers of his own and gave them to the Matoran's new allies, the Toa Inika, filling it with Energized Protodermis to counteract the Antidermis. The Inika's launchers were upgraded from the Piraka's, able to hold up to four spheres instead of just one.[8] Balta built a fragile set of launchers in hurry,[9] which the Matoran used to free the enslaved Toa Nuva from the effects of the Antidermis virus,[10] though these did not hold four spheres.[11]

As the Piraka underwent mutations due to exposure to Pit Mutagen, they were rendered incapable of using their weapons and subsequently lost them on Voya Nui. Similarly, when the Toa Inika were transformed into Toa Mahri by the power of the Ignika, they were granted new tools and their Zamor Launchers were lost.[12]

In a different reality, a Zamor Launcher was placed inside the Archives as one of the many trophies of the Toa Empire's conquest.[13]

Set Information

Toa Inika Jaller's Zamor Launcher

The set version of the Zamor launcher is a four-piece construction. It is operated by pushing a piece on the back, which pushes an axle that extends to the Zamor sphere's resting place. The Zamor forces apart the section of the base holding it in, then emerges as the base recompresses and increases the sphere's velocity. A Zamor Launcher was included in each of the Piraka and Toa Inika canister sets, featuring a fifth piece acting as a cartridge for extra Zamor spheres in the latter series.

A life-sized Zamor Launcher was also produced by the LEGO Group in 2006 and 2007 which fired foam balls, six of which were included with it in a lime green and bright green pattern intended to mimic Antidermis Zamor spheres. A pack of five spare orange and red-patterned Zamor Spheres for this launcher was also released.[15][16][17]

Trivia

  • The Zamor Launcher is the default weapon of the "Silver Toa" in the Nintendo DS version of BIONICLE Heroes.
  • Toa Inika Nuparu modified his Zamor Launcher to be shoulder-mounted.[18] He probably triggered this launcher mentally.[19]
