Bog Snake
"Nui-Jaga very hugebig. Bog snakes are many, but small. So what to do when hungry Rahi comes around? Bog snakes come from in front, behind, uptree, downtree, all at once. Nui-Jaga gets confused. Too many for even sharpstinger to stop."
— Toa Nuva Lewa, Tales of the Masks

Bog Snakes are venomous serpentine Rahi.
History
The Bog Snake species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]
On Metru Nui, Bog Snakes lived off the muddy shallows of Onu-Metru. When traveling the coast, Onu-Matoran were well-advised to tread carefully so as not to disturb a Bog Snake nest.[4]
When the Great Cataclysm struck, several snakes migrated to the newly formed island of Mata Nui, where they were most often found in the Fau Swamp of the Le-Wahi region. During the deforestation of the Le-Wahi jungle caused by the Bohrok swarms, the Bog Snakes lost the shelter of the trees and were forcefully displaced from their habitat.[5]
After 1,000 years on Mata Nui, the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, and the Bog Snakes followed.[6]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Bog Snakes emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Bog Snakes are venomous and have extremely bad temperaments.[4] They are natural enemies of the Ghekula and other small reptiles and amphibians that live in the swamps.[7] They are also preyed upon by Nui-Jaga, although they often swarm the scorpion when it attacks, confusing it enough to avoid its stinger tail.[8]

Trivia
- Before the Māori lawsuit against The LEGO Group, the Bog Snakes were called Kuna.[7][5] Since the name was not approved by The LEGO Group's legal department, Greg Farshtey could not use the term Kuna in any publications after 2002, necessitating the rename to Bog Snake.[9]
