The Kanohi Ruru is the Mask of Night Vision.

Powers

The Great version allows its user to cast a beam of light that allows them and those nearby to see. It also grants them normal night vision and a small degree of x-ray vision[1] not as powerful as that of the Akaku.[2] It can be used as a weapon, blinding enemies with its glow.[3][4][5] The Noble version does not glow, but allows its user to see clearly in any level of darkness.[1] The mask gives the user greater night vision than that of a Toa of Earth.[6]

Kanohi Ruru were made from Enlarge and Teleport Kanoka on Metru Nui.[7]

Set Information

The noble Ruru was first released in 2001 as part of 8545 Whenua in dark gray, 8537 Nui-Rama in transparent blue, 8539 Manas in orange, and 8546 PowerPack in black. It was one of the masks possible to be received in 8525 BIONICLE Masks, in orange, lime green, tan, light blue, light gray, and dark gray. Due to production errors, European releases of the mask pack also included the mask in red, blue, green, brown, black, and white. In 2002, it was released in 4168039 BIONICLE Clock in red, and alternatively light gray. It was later released again in black as part of set 8585 Hafu in 2003. In 2004, it was released as part of 8607 Nuhrii in dark red dual-injected with silver. The mask bears the code Z-07 on the inside.

A noble Ruru in yellow was included in the prototype for the cancelled Sand Tarakava set. The prototype mask featured the code written below the right eye.

The Great Kanohi Ruru was released in black in 2004, as part of set 8603 Toa Whenua, and in 2006 in sets 8724 Garan and 8625 Umbra. This mask would later be available in dark blue in 8940 Karzahni in 2007.

A Hordika-version of the mask was released in black as part of 8738 Toa Hordika Whenua in 2005.
