Kirikori Nui
"It is said that in an age long past, the wings of the Kirikori Nui darkened the skies of Mata Nui and their ringing call drowned out all other sounds. Today, the great insects are rare and spend their lives browsing at the edge of the Po-Wahi desert. Despite their scythe-like jaws and powerful legs, Kirikori Nui avoid confrontation, bounding incredible distances away from even the slightest of disturbances. The Turaga remember the legends, however, and keep a watchful eye on the skies."

Kirikori Nui are large, swarming, locust-like Rahi.
History
The Kirikori Nui species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[2]
On Metru Nui, swarms of Kirikori Nui would appear about every ten years over the city, consuming vegetation in Po-Metru and Ga-Metru before disappearing.[3] After the Great Cataclysm, some fled the Visorak through the Great Barrier.
A plague of Kirikori Nui once struck the island of Mata Nui, devouring masses of vegetation and darkening the skies in their sheer number. After this Matoro discovered that the Kirikori Nui were afraid of Nui-Kopen, so the Matoran used fake Rahi wasps to scare the Kirikori Nui away.[3] In time only a few Kirikori Nui remained around the borders of the Po-Wahi desert, although the island's Turaga remained wary and kept a close eye on the skies for signs of a swarm.
The Kirikori Nui migrated back to Metru Nui when the Toa Nuva unleashed the Bohrok on the island.[4]
After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Kirikori Nui left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]
Abilities and Traits
Kirikori Nui are considered pests by the Matoran for their habit of devouring large quantities of vegetation. Their call can be likened to a loud ringing. These Rahi avoid combat by bounding out of reach of potential threats, although if the need arises, the Kirikori Nui can use their sharp jaws and powerful legs to become a significant threat themselves. They aggregate in swarms, which can be seen from a distance as dark clouds.
The Kirikori Nui are afraid of the Nui-Kopen, as Matoro discovered while they swarmed Mata Nui.[3]
