"The giant Ranama thrives in the heat of Ta-Wahi, where it swims through the lava flow as if it were water. Lurking beneath the molten surface, a hungry Ranama will wait for an unwary Nui-Rama to fly past, then leap forth with an enormous fiery splash to ensnare the insect with its long and sticky tongue. Most Matoran know better than to approach the hissing, steaming amphibians, which will eat just about anything that they can catch."

Ranama are amphibious Rahi which live amidst the heat of lava flows.

History

The Ranama species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]

In Ta-Metru, the Ranama were hated by the Ta-Matoran due to their aggressive natures and the fact that Ranama-infested molten Protodermis vats had to be carefully filtered in order to remove the vermin.[4]

When the Great Cataclysm struck, many Ranama fled the Visorak through the Great Barrier to the island of Mata Nui, where they made their homes in Ta-Wahi.[2] The Ranama resided here for 1,000 years. When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, these Ranama migrated back to Metru Nui.[5]

After the Mata Nui Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Ranama left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

Ranama swim in molten Protodermis as if it were water. As a result, they frequently hiss and steam. Ranama feed chiefly on Nui-Rama, which they catch with long, sticky tongues from their hiding places beneath the surface of lava streams. However, they are accustomed to eat anything they catch, making their vicinity hazardous for unwary Matoran.[6]

Set Information

A Ranama can be built using instructions found on the LEGO Club website as well as various TECHNIC and BIONICLE parts.
