"Savage" is a powerful Dark Hunter, mutated by Hordika Venom.

Biography

Savage was once a Matoran[3] who transformed into a Toa of Earth.[4]

He and his his team encountered a scouting partol of Visorak. He was caught and mutated by the Visorak into a bestial, Toa-Rahi hybrid, much like the Toa Hordika,[note 1] while his team escaped. He later managed to free himself and returned to his comrades, though none of them could recognize him. Shocked by his appearance, they attacked him, believing him to be a monster. As his rage and despair grew, transformation accelerated, and he finally lost control, badly injuring his friends. He left while feeling sad, guilty, and angry.

The Shadowed One later found Savage and learned from his spies what had happened to him. The Shadowed One convinced Savage to become a Dark Hunter, telling him his former teammates had been jealous and had allowed him to be mutated. This made Savage believe that his friends had become enemies, so he agreed to joined the Dark Hunters.

Shortly before Mata Nui's Reawakening, he was incapacitated due to another fit of rage brought on by his mutation, and was confined in his special cell in the Dark Hunters' fortress.[5]

After the Matoran Universe was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, Savage was brought onto Spherus Magna.[6][7]

Abilities and Traits

Due to his animalistic mutation, Savage lost his ability to speak, and can only growl and bellow. He frequently gets Rahi-like urges and is seized by madness. When this occurs, he is locked in a specialized cell so as to prevent damage to himself, others, or the building. The damage that Savage does to his containment cell is taken out of his pay. When he calms down, he will be released.[2]

Savage's Rhotuka can paralyze his opponents, and his tracking abilities are comparable to that of an Energy Hound, being able to track a mote of dust across a desert. He no longer has access to his Earth powers from his time as a Toa.[8]

Mask and Tools

Savage wore a Great Kanohi Ruru, Mask of Night Vision, as a Toa. When he transformed into a Toa Hordika, the mask fused to his face and he became unable to access its power.[citation needed]

As a Hordika, Savage carries a Tri-Claw that can liquefy solid matter. He also developed a natural Rhotuka Launcher.[5]

Notes

  1. In official media, such as BIONICLE: Dark Hunters, Savage is called a "Toa Hordika": a Toa mutated by Hordika Venom. Savage was not a member of the Toa Metru, which was a Toa team temporarily known as the Toa Hordika. For clarity, this article avoids calling Savage a Toa Hordika.
