"How did you get past your guard?"
"I didn't. Used my mask power to cut off his gravity. Too bad you missed it. You would have believed a Takea shark can fly."
Toa Mahri Hahli and Hewkii, Prisoners of the Pit

Title Mask of Gravity
Powers Gravity
Component disks Disk of Gravity[1]
Bearers Hewkii
Pronunciation gah-RYE[2][note 1]

The Kanohi Garai is the Mask of Gravity.[3]

Powers

The Kanohi Garai grants its user Toa-level control over Gravity,[4][5][6] allowing them to increase or decrease a target's gravitational pull within a certain range.[2][7][8][9] The power can be used on multiple targets,[10] including the user,[11][12][note 2] and can even be applied to select body parts, effectively manipulating the target's shape or movements.[15] The mask's power cannot be used to absorb Gravity from the environment,[16][17] just as Toa of Gravity cannot.[18][19] This mask is one of the few to have Elemental Powers, although it will not boost any preexisting Gravity powers the user may already have.[20][21] A Noble Garai would grant its wearer Turaga-level control over gravity,[22] which would be about half as intense as the Great.[23]

Kanohi Garai can be crafted from Kanoka of Gravity.[1][24] Hewkii's was not, as it was transformed from a Kanohi Sanok into its current state by the Kanohi Ignika.[25]

Example Usage

Hewkii used his Kanohi Garai to increase the pull of gravity on the 300 foot long Mutant Venom Eel, making it crash into the seabed and knocking it unconscious in Prisoners of the Pit.

Notes

  1. The pronunciation provided in Encyclopedia Updated is gah-RI, but gah-RYE is written here instead since it is less ambiguous.
  2. Greg Farshtey has stated that the mask cannot affect the user themselves.[13][14]
