"Then a huge head rose from the steaming mercury. Makuta? No, it wasn't the dark one — at least not completely. It was the merged face of Takanuva and Makuta — half Mask of Light, half Mask of Shadows."
— Narrator, Mask of Light

Mask of Light and Shadow
Kanohi
Title Mask of Light and Shadow
Powers Shadow - Light
Anger - Trust
Fear - Understanding
Bearers Takutanuva (formerly)

The Mask of Light and Shadow[1] was a Kanohi formed from the merging of the Kanohi Avohkii and the Kanohi Kraahkan.

The Mask of Light and Shadow was created when the Avohkii and Kraahkan became immersed in Energized Protodermis, along with their bearers, Toa Takanuva and Makuta Teridax, during their conflict. When Takutanuva was split back into Takanuva and Teridax after being crushed under the door that he had lifted, the Mask of Light and Shadow was also split back into the Mask of Light and Mask of Shadows respectively.

Powers

Since the Mask of Light and Shadow was the result of the Avohkii and Kraahkan being fused together, it granted its user access to all of the powers of both masks, including Light, Shadow, understanding, anger, and fear. The mask could also be used to sense the moral Light and Shadow inside of a being. Although the mask was one of the few Elemental Kanohi, it did not boost any pre-existing Elemental Light or Shadow powers Takutanuva had.

Trivia

  • In the film BIONICLE: Mask of Light, the mask is half-Avohkii, half-Kraahkan, with the Avohkii partially dominating the center, and it is described as such in the Takutanuva entry of BIONICLE: Encyclopedia Updated. The Takutanuva combiner uses the Kraahkan in the place of the mask, as the merged Kanohi was not included in either of the component sets nor the bundle releases. In the non-canon BIONICLE: The Game, Takutanuva's mask appears to be a massive Avohkii.
  • In 2014, LEGO Message Boards member TakeshiRahkshi999 asked if the mask could be called as "Kraavohkii," but Greg Farshtey could not have accepted it as every official Bionicle term should have gone through the company's legal department first.[2]
