"Chirox struck first, using his mask power to make it impossible for Takanuva to hear their approach or call for help."
— Narrator, The Final Battle

Title Mask of Silence
Powers Renders target mute and deaf
Bearers Chirox
Mutran (both formerly)
Pronunciation SHAY-leck[1]

The Kanohi Shelek is the Mask of Silence. It allows its user to simultaneously disable a target's ability to speak and hear for as long as the user concentrates.[2][3] The mask cannot rob either speech or hearing; it has to do both.[4]

Example Usage

Chirox used his Kanohi Shelek in The Final Battle to temporarily deafen and mute Takanuva so that he and Bitil could ambush him.

  • Makuta Chirox - Formerly wore a shapeshifted version; now deceased
  • Makuta Mutran - Formerly wore a shapeshifted version; now deceased

Picture Description
A Great Kanohi Shelek
A Noble Kanohi Shelek

  • Toa would not normally wear this mask, due to its association with Makuta.[7]
  • Like the rest of the immoral Kanohi, these masks were created under the direction of Brotherhood of Makuta.[8]
  • The advantage that Makuta Chirox had for wearing a Shelek while already having access to Silence as a Makuta power was so that he could use two Makuta powers at once,[9][10] which Makuta cannot naturally do.[11]
