"Many beings are drawn to the life of a Dark Hunter by the potential for profit and adventure, or simply to escape the life they have been living before. Others, like Gatherer, were pulled into the organization by force and given no choice about remaining."

"Gatherer" is a well-armored Dark Hunter.

Biography

Many thousands of years ago, Gatherer was an Onu-Matoran,[1] and a leader amongst Matoran on an island. One day, he got in the way of a Dark Hunter operation, and was captured and taken to their base. The Shadowed One forcefully persuaded him to become a Dark Hunter, and Gatherer joined the ranks of the organization.

More than 7,000 years ago, Gatherer traveled to the Northern Continent with Triglax and Lurker in order to kidnap Toa Varian. Triglax shapeshifted into a Toa, and Gatherer and Lurker pretended to capture him, luring Varian and her companion, Norik, into combat on the Dark Hunters' getaway boat. Gatherer dueled and defeated Norik, and the three sailed back to Odina with the two Toa as captives.[2]

Shortly before Mata Nui's Reawakening, Gatherer was on the trail on a mysterious third party previously unknown to the Dark Hunters, which could have potentially been an enemy.[3][4][5]

The Order of Mata Nui--the third party Gatherer had been investigating--later disclosed its existence to the Dark Hunters and made an alliance with them. During the ensuing war, Gatherer fought against the Brotherhood of Makuta. Once Teridax took over the universe, Gatherer traveled to Xia, the Hunters' new base of operations. He also took part in the resistance against Teridax organized by the Toa.

After the Matoran Universe was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, Gatherer immigrated to Spherus Magna.[6][7]

Abilities and Traits

As an Onu-Matoran, Gatherer was connected to the element of Earth. Like other Onu-Matoran, he could see very well in the dark, but less well in the light.

Once taken by the Dark Hunters, Gatherer was modified so that he would not need food or sleep, and has a connection to subterranean Rahi, being able to control them.

Whenever Gatherer successfully completes a mission, he takes a piece of his enemy's armor and adds it to himself, gradually building himself from a Matoran into what he is today.

Tools

Gatherer's armor is incredibly thick, and he carries a wide array of weapons, including a Kanoka Disk Launcher with a Kanoka[note 1] of Mind Scrambling, a blade that can slice through solid Protodermis, an energy cannon, and another blade that doubles as a shield.

Trivia

  • Gatherer was created by Sam Winfield, for the LEGO Magazine Dark Hunter Building Challenge, and was given a storyline role and place in the book BIONICLE: Dark Hunters, by Greg Farshtey.
  • Gatherer's image in BIONICLE: Dark Hunters is mirrored, as evidenced by the pinholes of the Kanoka Launcher on his shoulder. Because no official publications feature an un-mirrored image of Gatherer, the image in this article has been left mirrored.

Notes

  1. Gatherer's entry in BIONICLE: Dark Hunters says he has a Rhotuka, but this is to be read as Kanoka due to the fact that a Rhotuka is not present on the actual model but a Kanoka is.[8]
