Kaj is an Onu-Matoran native to Metru Nui.

Biography

Metru Nui

Prior to the Great Cataclysm, Kaj lived and worked in Onu-Metru. He was captured by the Vahki under the command of Makuta Teridax, disguised as Turaga Dume. He was then forced into a Matoran Sphere but was later rescued by the Toa Metru and awakened on the shores of Naho Bay on the island of Mata Nui.

Mata Nui

Kaj's size and strength were diminished and he also lost memories of Metru Nui, both resulting from his confinement in a Matoran Sphere. Shortly after arriving on Mata Nui, under Turaga Whenua's direction, he worked to aid the construction of Onu-Koro by reusing parts of the Airships that had been used to transport the Matoran to Mata Nui.

On Mata Nui, Kaj became a Guard of the gate to Onu-Koro. He was assigned to protect the Cavern of Light, and at one point had to evacuate the area after burst pipes flooded the area with lava. He warned Takua against trying to cross the flow, but was still appreciative of the Chronicler's actions after the lava was drained. Kaj fled the village with the other Onu-Matoran when the Bohrok attacked, and he was later rebuilt after the defeat of the Bohrok-Kal. When the Rahkshi attacked Onu-Koro, he was evacuated from the village along with the other Matoran.

Return to Metru Nui

Following the Rahkshi's defeat, Kaj helped build boats to return to Metru Nui. Upon arrival, he began helping in the effort to rebuild the dilapidated city. He temporarily stopped his work of reconstruction on order of Jaller, to force the Turaga to reveal where the Toa Nuva had gone, but he eventually got back to work.

After the death of Teridax crippled the Mata Nui Robot, Kaj emigrated from the Matoran Universe with others, to start afresh on Spherus Magna.

• Kaj is a Danish name meaning "earth" or "keeper of the earth."
