Mamoru is an Onu-Matoran native to Metru Nui.

Biography

Metru Nui

Prior to the Great Cataclysm, Mamoru lived and worked in Onu-Metru. He was captured by the Vahki under the command of Makuta Teridax, disguised as Turaga Dume. He was then forced into a Matoran Sphere but was later rescued by the Toa Metru and awakened on the shores of Naho Bay on the island of Mata Nui.[3]

Mata Nui

Mamoru was physically shrunken and weakened after his exposure to the effects of a Matoran Sphere and lost his memories of living on Metru Nui. Despite this, he labored for the construction of Onu-Koro which was supervised by Turaga Whenua and took place using materials from Airships which had been used in the Great Rescue.[4]

In Onu-Koro, Mamoru became the Chief Prospector for Mine Shaft 8. It was his job to find the Ore deposits in the Great Mine.[5] He had great faith in fellow prospector Azibo, whose knowledge of the Principle of Onu-Koro was considered invaluable to their job.[6] Mamoru briefly vacated Onu-Koro during the Bohrok Invasion.[7] He was later rebuilt following the defeat of the Bohrok-Kal.[8] Mamoru was evacuated from Onu-Koro with the other Matoran during the Rahkshi attack on the village.[9]

Return to Metru Nui

Mamoru later joined with the other Matoran to build boats to return to Metru Nui.[10] Once they had reached the city, he again worked alongside the others to help rebuild the ruined city. He temporarily stopped his work of reconstruction on order of Jaller, to force the Turaga to reveal where the Toa Nuva had gone, but he eventually got back to work.[11]

After Teridax had been killed in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Matoran of Metru Nui, including Mamoru, left the city to relocate to Spherus Magna to start a new life.[12][13]

Trivia

  • In the Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle, Mamoru is referred to as "Mamru" in the dialogue of Azibo and Whenua. However, his spawn code refers to him as "Mamoru," and consequently, so does his speech box. Additionally, his conversation file is titled MamoruConversation.swf. Most Matoran names introduced in the game originate from real-world languages, and while "mamru" does not have a known meaning, some sources claim 'Mamoru' can mean "Of the earth."[14][15]
