"They were barely on their way when the mountains seemed to close around them, cutting off all light. The brightest of days turned into the long shadows of dusk in an instant. The warm breezes of Ta-Wahi were gone now, replaced by an icy wind that chilled them to the core of their beings."
Nuju, Tales of the Masks

Position Between Ta-Wahi and Ko-Wahi

The Place of Shadow,[1][2] also called the Place of Shadows,[3] was a canyon bordering Ko-Wahi and Ta-Wahi that was conquered by Makuta Teridax.

History

The Place of Shadow was carefully avoided by Matoran and Bohrok alike. Toa Nuva Tahu, Gali, and Kopaka searched for the Kanohi Nuva in the Place of Shadow during the Bohrok-Kal's strike. The Toa of Fire and Ice struggled to cooperate throughout the journey, but managed to safely avoid an avalanche and multiple illusions summoned by the Makuta. The Toa finally located the Akaku, Miru and Pakari Nuva and retrieved them, unknowingly triggering a trap set by Teridax. As they were joined by Turaga Vakama, Lewa, Onua and Pohatu, they encountered the Rahi Nui. Turaga Vakama trapped and bested the beast with the power of his Noble Kanohi Huna after the Toa were unsuccessful in their attempts to fend off the creature. The group then left the canyon unharmed.

The Place of Shadow was destroyed by the awakening of the Great Spirit Mata Nui.
