Talk:Place of Shadow
From BIONICLEsector01
Quote by Nuju
I know the chapter is framed as being told by Nuju, but we don't consider the narrator in the Legends books as direct quotations of Vakama, do we? I don't think it's implied that the chapters are word-to-word what the Turaga said. --Toatapio Nuva (talk) 06:36, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Those are the adventures books. This quote is from the Chronicles series, and that specific quote is from Nuju's tale that he told to the other Turaga during their private meeting before the MoL Kolhii match, where they discussed whether or not tell the Toa Nuva what happened on Metru Nui. So no, it's not narrator, not Vakama, it's Nuju.--SurelNuva (Talk) 07:22, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- I don't get how this addresses my question... why do we treat this differently from the Adventures books?--Toatapio Nuva (talk) 09:15, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- The Adventure books were directly narrated by Vakama most of the times. The Chronicles books happened "in real time". They are not retelling of Vakama to the others. And the quote on the page is from BIONICLE Chronicles 4: Tales of the Masks, where the Turaga having a meeting whether tell the Toa Nuva the tales of Metru Nui, each sharing a story to convince the others about their personal opinion. Nuju tells them a story about the Place of Shadow (the Mata Nui location), and after Nuju finishes his part, Vakama follows him with the rest, since he was there when the Rahi Nui was defeated. It's quite clear from the book.--SurelNuva (Talk) 09:55, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- I get what Toatapio means. The framing device for Chronicles 4, the Adventures books, and also Legends 8, is all the same: Someone retelling the story. However, in that case these should all be treated equally when referring to the narrator. I'd be inclined to say it should simply say narrator like any other book, because like Toatapio, I don't think these reflect what the narrator character is literally saying word-for-word, especially since they delve into perspectives and thoughts of other characters. ~ Wolk (talk) 10:51, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- On the other hand Nuju knows this, since Kopaka told him what happened. And Kopaka probably told him what he thought about the place, didn't he? Or we treat the other retellings/narrations from this book differently on the other pages? If so, we should change that for the sake of consistency... It just came to my mind.--SurelNuva (Talk) 10:56, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
