After this rebellion, some Makuta's Toa Hagah were put to death, while others may have become corrupt and served in the Brotherhood's army.[9][10]

Toa Hagah
Before the Brotherhood revealed its designs to overthrow Mata Nui, many Makuta maintained personal teams of Toa known as Toa Hagah. Each group of Toa Hagah protected its assigned Makuta and handled local threats, such as a rampage of Fohrok and a Frostelus attack.[2] The Makuta concealed their plans from their loyal Toa.
Toa Hagah were elite teams. Members were selected from Toa who had already made names for themselves through their deeds and courage,[12] and to mark their status, Toa Hagah wore armor and Kanohi made from precious metals. When a Toa joined a team of Toa Hagah, their former teammates honored them by gifting them their new metallic mask, which was forged in a shape that honored a past hero.[13][14]
The relationship between Toa Hagah and Makuta collapsed three hundred years before the Great Cataclysm, when Teridax's team of Toa Hagah learned that the Brotherhood had been responsible for stealing the Kanohi Avohkii from the island of Artakha to prevent the emergence of a Toa of Light.[15] In turn, Teridax's Toa Hagah learned that the Makuta had been secretly enslaving Matoran whom the Makuta had sworn to protect, that the Brotherhood was allied with the Dark Hunters, and that the peaceful Exo-Toa had been corrupted to serve as sentries for the Brotherhood fortresses.[16] Furthermore, they learned that Roodaka and Sidorak, known servants of the Brotherhood, were commanding Visorak spiders, a species that had appeared years before.[17] Finally, they learned that the Dark Hunters, Visorak, and Exo-Toa had been assembled in their full might to strike at other lands.[2]
Teridax's team, led by Toa Norik, successfully raided the Brotherhood's fortress on Destral and retrieved the Avohkii along with the Makoki Stone.[18][19][20] The Brotherhood ultimately captured the six Toa and mutated them into the Rahaga yet did not recover either artifact.[18][19][20]
Fearing a similar revolt by the other Toa Hagah teams, the Brotherhood eliminated some of them,[9] donating at least several to Chirox for use in developing Rahi,[21][22] while some managed to survive.[23] Some Toa Hagah became corrupt, serving in the Brotherhood's army,[10] although they were no longer serving the Brotherhood as of its Karda Nui invasion.[24]
Known Toa Hagah
Seven Makuta are known to have maintained Toa Hagah: Teridax, Antroz, Chirox, Mutran, Spiriah, Tridax, and the Makuta of Stelt. Of those seven, details are known only of Teridax's team. Meanwhile, seven Makuta are known not to have maintained Toa Hagah: Icarax, Krika, Gorast, Kojol, Bitil, Vamprah, and Miserix.[25][26][27]
Visorak Horde
A large part of the Brotherhood's army was comprised of a branch known as the Visorak Horde. The Visorak were vicious spider Rahi created by Makuta Chirox, later conquered by Gorast[28] using the Heart of the Visorak. Commanded by its king, Sidorak, and his Viceroy, Roodaka, the Visorak Horde conquered many lands and mutated many creatures and beings with their venom. The Horde was disbanded in Metru Nui after the death of Sidorak and the defeat of Roodaka,[29] but was eventually reformed by the Brotherhood.[30]
Commanders
- Sidorak - King of the Visorak hordes; killed by Keetongu in Metru Nui. (deceased)
- Roodaka - Viceroy/Queen of the Visorak. Afterwards, she worked for both the Brotherhood and the Dark Hunters, and was eventually taken into custody by the Order of Mata Nui.
- Vakama Hordika - A Toa Hordika who was manipulated into joining the horde by Roodaka and made commander of the Visorak. He disbanded the hordes and returned to the Toa Hordika, becoming a Turaga.
Visorak
The Visorak were the main part of the Horde; seven breeds of spiders, each with their own unique abilities and powers. The Visorak were rendered extinct during the Order of Mata Nui/Brotherhood of Makuta War,[31] but Teridax recreated the species and used them as servants prior to his death.[32]
Rahi Allies
The Horde employed or enslaved a number of Rahi allies for assistance, who would travel with the Horde during their conquests.
- Colony Drones - Small Rahi which provided an energy source on which the Visorak fed.
- Gate Guardians - Rahi that could project a smaller image of itself in order to fool enemies; often used as guards.
- Venom Flyers - Flying Rahi used by the Horde as aerial support.
- Zivon - An enormous Rahi that naturally inhabits the Field of Shadows; was only called upon in times of great need, as it naturally eats Visorak, and will only fight to protect its food.
