:Thanks for pointing those out.
:I've installed mw:Extension:MultimediaViewer. Currently it's disabled for anonymous users, and logged-in users can flip it on inside Special:Preferences -> Appearance. Do you (and others reading) think the feature should be enabled by default? If there's interest, I can easily change the default setting.
:I don't think BS01 would particularly benefit from Template:Reply to since it doesn't add a new feature. All the template does is produce a nicely-formatted link to a userpage, and then mw:Extension:Echo (already installed) detects the link and pings the user. Since users can easily ping each other without the template (as this link hopefully demonstrates: User:VectorVoyager), I don't think the overhead of a new template + Lua module brings much benefit.
:Are there other MediaWiki features/extensions you think would be useful? If so, let me know, and I'll check them out. -- <font color="#f11f1f">Morris the Mata Nui Cow</font> (talk) 01:55, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

A Thousand Years Untold 2 Winners?

Considering S&T Contest 6: A Thousand Years Untold 2 has reached its close, will the winning entries be added to Biosector01 in the near future? Legolover-361 17:08, 22 April 2012 (PDT)

Dorek talked about that on the last podcast episode he was on, saying something about not having as concrete of canon confirmation from Greg as past contests have. He would be the one to talk to I think, because Greg's not going to be reappearing. `Song

Not at all? ζω·τωμαναexternal image

From everything I know, I would be extremely surprised if he ever came back, especially in any comparable capacity to the past. `Song
According to this recent Bonesiii post, the contest entries didn't need final approval from GregF because the contest's premise was already approved and, I assume, because the judges ensured the entries adhered to Bionicle canon. Legolover-361 07:53, 16 July 2012 (PDT)
My point was that even with all of those tenants in place, I, personally (and I understand that the others feel this way as well) don't feel comfortable with it, especially given a previous instance, that being my own winning entry. For the Core War story contest, the initial premise was approved (suggested, actually) by Greg, and went through what I can only assume was a similarly rigorous judging and analyzing process. Even with all of that, after being selected as the winner, I was still asked to re-write the introduction by Greg, because what happened didn't fit in with his overall vision (specifically, of the Great Beings) and didn't mesh with the way he was going to expand upon them in the future (I portrayed them as cynical scientists, he saw them as repentant philosophers).
I'm not saying any of the current stories are like that, I'm not saying that there was or ever would be wrong with winners from ATYU2... but in point of fact, we can't know with 100% certainty. That is always how we've tried to run our ship over here, that's always how the fan base at large has been when it comes to "maybes" and "presumably"'s, that's how Greg worked to try and help us shape the story. I get that a lot of work went into the contest, I get that some of the winners may feel less than toward us for this attitude (our very own Grant Sud was one of the winners, if you recall), but I'm trying my best not to squander the spirit we have all worked together to build. I'm sorry the contest didn't have the benefit of timing on its side, but in the end, there were a few contributing factors that led to this decision, and I wish it could have come together a bit more cohesively. -- I AM THE DOREK do not truffle with me 13:24, 16 July 2012 (PDT)

Recent Revelation

Hello.

I'm not entirely sure if you are the right person to bring this up with, but I'll just mention it anyway. In light of the recent reveal of the nature of the Red Star, I've noticed several characters who have previously been killed off in the past (including characters like Matoro and Teridax) have been listed as alive. I know that the new information seems to suggest that a lot of these characters would be alive and well, but I was wondering if it should be removed or not until more info is released.

Also, in regards to characters like Teridax and Matoro, I think it would be safer to still list them as deceased. I don't see how Matoro could still be alive, seeing as his life force was dissolved by the Ignika with what was left of it being scattered across the MU to revive Mata Nui (a range which I think would be too broad for the Red Star to try and collect what little remained of Matoro's essence and piece it back together), and I believe Greg has repeatedly stated that Teridax is permanently dead, so for now at least, I think we should take his word for it. So, should we leave this information up on deceased characters' pages before we start declaring Mutran's back from the grave, or should we take it down for now? --Makuta Mistika 02:32, 21 September 2012 (PDT)

It's on the list of things that we might want to bring up, but we're not sure if we want to ask him to do something like that at the moment. We're keeping it fairly simple for the time being; the fact that he just doesn't have the memory for all of the story details like he used to means it's less likely to get a yes anyway. -- I AM THE DOREK do not truffle with me 12:56, 20 December 2012 (PST)

So on HS01, Dorek showed your amazing images where you magically ditched annoying text boxes. Now on BS01, I gathered a list of the images suffering from text boxes here. I have no idea if they can be fixed, but if they can, it would be really great to see that happen. This isn't an request, and you don't have to do this it all, but it would be really awesome if you did. If you don't want to, I won't lose any sleep over it. Thanks. Lord Nektann

Unfortunately, the process you are describing is magic, not technology. With digital comics, they often create layers and impose text on a completely separate layer so that they can play around with speech placement design (especially prevalent in the BIONICLE comics, where they animated the whole process). Triggy was responsible for most of the ones from the .swf files back in the day. When they stopped doing digital comics, we basically lost our means of getting them textless. If they exist elsewhere online (as was the case with the Hero Factory comics) then it's possible that we could get them textless, but even then, not always a guarantee; only some of the HF comics ended up being layered anyway, and at a very low resolution. -- I AM THE DOREK do not truffle with me 19:48, 15 January 2013 (PST)

Uploading font to site

Would it be possible to upload the four metrumatoran font files here (not the readme though, that was just a test) to BS01's resources folder? As the name suggests, it's a font I made for rendering Metru/Mata Nui-style Matoran text, and I thought it could be used instead of Template:MatoranText and maybe even in the infoboxes of MU character pages (here is an example of this, although it doesn't work in Firefox; I think this is because the font isn't hosted locally). Picture Sources

Hello Swert! I'm currently doing some copyright-tagging of pictures on the Chronist-Wiki. Usually, a picture gets the "This picture belongs to LEGO" and so on-Stuff, but the following list shows real-life people, so the copyright holder might be someone different. Some pictures come from the LoMN DVD (=belong to LEGO), but I do not know where the others come from. Could you (or someone else who is reading this, I'm adressing this to you because you uploaded most of the pictures) please help me with this?

--Fippede 23:42, 22 September 2014 (CEST)

(Swert's only tagged as the uploader because of the way we changed servers; the original person is lost to time)
Aanchir might be your best bet for tracking down the sources; some of these are from comics or the LEGO Magazine, at least, while others might be from personal websites of the person in question. The GregF one is kosher, since it was taken with Darnzerf at his behest, and then bequeathed to us. I'm fairly certain the Bink ones are okay too.
(wanna do the same thing here on BS01? :U) -- I AM THE DOREK do not truffle with me 00:13, 23 September 2014 (CEST)

Ah, I see. Okay, I'll ask Aanchir about it. I agree with you that the pictures, not only the Greg&Bink ones, are most likely okay, but I just want to make sure to mention the source. I'll translate the template to English so that you can get an idea of what I mean. Unfortunately, I won't have the time to tag all 7000 pictures here (NtM and myself only got like 400 of the CW-Pics done so far), but this community is greater by numbers, so it will get the tagging done, I guess.

On Darnzerf's picture: Does this mean that the GNU FDL applies to it? --Fippede 13:53, 23 September 2014 (CEST)

Interwiki – Extra Step

Hello, Swert. This is about the message one gets when clicking on an interwikilink: “You are leaving this site! You are being redirected to ...” I think that this is disturbing.

As far as I remember, when the partnership between BS01 and the Chronist-Wiki started, this extra step was put there because of BZPower. If I get this right, BZP only allowed links to BS01, because there are no “dangerous” external links on here. So, I'm not active on BZP, but this policy seems to have changed. For example, my profile page directly links to chronistwiki.de, without the extra step.

Also, I have noticed, that it is possible to use interwikilinks to link to other pages directly, like arXiv, IMDb and even to Wikis that have absolutely nothing to do with BS01 or BIONICLE. Sidorak and many other pages directly link to a page on Wikipedia without an extra step.

So why does there have to be an extra step to the Chronist-Wiki? There is a partnership between us, I'd even call us sister wikis. Unlike other pages, there even is a link back to BS01 at the target page. Also, that extra step is pretty annoying for me personally, because I switch around between BS01 and CW a lot.

So, I'd be happy, if you would change the interwiki-prefix de from http://biosector01.com/wiki/outbound.php?u=http://chronistwiki.de/wiki/$1 to http://chronistwiki.de/wiki/$1 and change the link in the Sidebar. :-) Of course, I'll do the same thing in the CW, if you think this is fine. --Fippede 18:13, 24 September 2014 (CEST)

I noticed that the other day; I thought it was some weird inbound settings you guys had. I have no idea why it's just your site. I'll get around to changing that too, or someone else will. -- I AM THE DOREK do not truffle with me 19:10, 24 September 2014 (CEST)

I gave you temp admin powers because I'm on mobile and editing is hard. Have at. -- I AM THE DOREK do not truffle with me 19:39, 24 September 2014 (CEST)

Umm, thanks, but I'm afraid I still cannot change it. One way to do this is to use Special:Interwiki, then admin powers are useful. Unfortunately, BS01 doesn't have this special page, so one has to have access to the server to change interwiki settings. This is why I originally adressed this to Swert, because I doubt that anyone other than him could change it. xD Anyway, I edited the Common.css, so we got that done, but I guess now we (=you) have to contact Swert about the interwiki. Of course, you can wait until you get back home, there is no hurry ^^

What I could do, is change the link in the Sidebar. But should I only change the one for the Chronist-Wiki, or all of them? --Fippede 20:09, 24 September 2014 (CEST)

The cause of this is that one of the files is too large for the server to handle in its request. This error will go away once that file is no longer on that special page (so after you upload enough files to push it off the first page of recent uploads), but it would be a good idea to find which file it is and delete it. In other words, the server is using all the memory it can allocate to try to handle that image but eventually can't and has no more memory to call on. I'm having trouble reproducing this however. --Meiko (talk) 19:34, 17 December 2014 (CET)

So apparently BIONICLE rebooted without me noticing. I just wanted to say hi to satisfy my nostalgia.

So hi.

Hey man. Yeah, things happened and we're all still buzzing from the hype.

Her Swert! The podcast domain expires in a few days. Did that poll ever get set up? `Kraahlix

Hey Swert, noticed you were testing out a new logo over on FB... I'm not sure it's necessarily what you're looking for, but if you're interested here's another version based on the Mask of Creation from the animations: (no text text vector). I also made a logo for the Arena.09 skin that has a Scarabax on it: (text vector). So yeah. :P -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 01:50, 9 June 2015 (CEST)

DH template image

I noticed you uploaded new images for the templates recently, but I just noticed the DH template only shows the bottom end of the staff. Look at TSO for example. You might want to fix that. --Vartemp Talk 18:30, 11 July 2015 (CEST)

Help Me Please

Hi, it's Toa Jala. I forgot my password and never gave you my email. I was wondering if you could email it to me now. My IP address should be the same in case you have to validate my claim. I did enter my email for this account. Thank you in advance. Jala Forgot His Password (talk) 20:22, 9 October 2015 (CEST)

No worries ^^ Next time (and this can go for anybody, really) if anybody needs a password reset, just send an email to one of the staff so you don't have to make a second account :P --external image Owner (talk|contribs)

Account Creations

Either we're very popular, or we had a spammer make a bunch of accounts. Do you know what happened? --Vartemp Talk 20:55, 7 November 2015 (CET)

In the process of setting up Special:AbuseFilter on this wiki, I intentionally disabled the CAPTCHAs to see if the filters were effectively catching spambots. They managed to prevent several hundred spam actions within 24 hours, and since I finished setting everything up (approximately 1:08pm ET), there hasn't been a single spambot. There's no need for concern. --Meiko (talk) 06:36, 8 November 2015 (CET)

Images issue

Hi Swert! Why I can't upload any images to the BS01? I have several useful images like high quality pictures of the combiners and more. Is this function locked for normal users? --external image 18:55, 20 February 2016 (CET) UPD: I figured out that uploads were disabled. So, can I send you all of my images that need to be uploaded? Can you write your e-mail please? --external image 23:29, 22 February 2016 (CET)

Yeah, sorry about that; We had a vandal who insisted on signing up every morning with a dynamic IP uploading inappropriate images. I had to disable it until we can fix it. Feel free to email them to me at swert @ outlook.com --external image Owner (talk|contribs)

User Offshoot Pages?

Are we still allowed to make personal offshoot pages (for instance, our own sandboxes)? If so, would it be acceptable for me to make a separate page for displaying bios of my own characters? -- Toa Jala The AFC needs your help! 08:56, 19 March 2016 (CET)

Regardless, I looked into the file and it wasn't in RGB colors, it was set in "indexed RGB" mode which seems to hork the server up, similar to when we used CMYK formats. I also tried to upload it as a PNG, it didn't work, so I swapped to JPG. That seemed to work. No harm, no foul. We're good :) --external image Owner (talk|contribs)
Okay, I was surprised that these two didn't work for the other pictures what I uploaded are right. -- Surel-Nuva (Talk) 20:12, 9 January 2017 (CET)

Quick Question

A while ago, I uploaded a .png file for the instructions for the 2017 Scorpion polybag (this file). A direct link to the file works just fine, but if you try to link to the info page for the file (like this), an error occurs. Also, the list of uploaded files seems to have broken because of this. The file's resolution was kind of high (2550x3508), but the file size was only around 9 MB, so I'm not sure why these errors are occurring. I mentioned this problem shortly after I uploaded the file, but it was in some out-of-the-way place, and it doesn't seem like the problem has been resolved. Do you know what might be causing the issue, and if so, would you know how to fix it? Thanks! --Volitak Boxor (talk) 04:46, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

We've had this issue in the past, and certainly there are probably ways to solve it that I am unaware of. Usually we just have to shave the filesize down (for some reason it's just too large to render I guess, I never truly know myself.) I solved the problem this time without having to compromise the size of the file by changing it to .PDF instead. It's shaved down 4 MB of the file size, and it kept the original resolution as scanned and/or pulled.
Hopefully this is adequate for you as well, I'm personally fine with it. --external image Owner (talk|contribs) 19:57, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Not sure if right person or even palce to ask but i guess anyone can do. have a handful of guff images i want to mark for deletion, how do i do that?

Image terms of use?

Hi there! I'm making an app that will let people who are collecting masks track the ones they have. Are there any terms of use or guidelines I must follow if I wish to use the images from this wiki's Sets/Collectibles page for the app? Please let me know! Thank you!

FulminDerek (talk) 02:17, 19 February 2020 (UTC)FulminDerek

Hi there! As per the GNU Free Documentation License, we only ask that you credit the source of the images. In this case that source would be The LEGO Group, Advance (the design firm that created most of the CG art), or any other studio that was involved therein. Crediting us is not really technically necessary, but very much appreciated. --external image Owner (talk|contribs)
Oh okay, I just realized you must have meant the ones we made that only exists here. Yeah, just feel free to credit me and the artist who did them for me, Brian Khổng (not a member of BS01, but he did submit them to me so I have say in how they're distributed.) --external image Owner (talk|contribs)

Chronist-Wiki

Dear Swert, I regret to inform you that the Chronist-Wiki no longer exists and our inter-language partnership has come to an end. We have had massive technical difficulties after a failed software upgrade. After it turned out that even an older backup was not restorable, there is no hope that we will return. We are sorry and thank you for our past partnership. --Fippede 08:30, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

I may have spoken too soon. There may be some information to recover. I'll let you know if there is any progress. --Fippede 11:55, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
We were able to recover a 2016 backup. A few articles were added after that, but not many. All in all, I would say that most Interwikilinks are working again. --Fippede 20:14, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
I am grateful you were able to get back up and running. I would hate for the German community to lose such a valuable resource, and I am FULLY aware of how painful it is to lose a whole database (BS01 was rebuilt TWICE.) --external image Owner (talk|contribs) 20:19, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. We now have a list of all articles where the Wayback Machine has a version of the source code that is from 2019, so newer than 2016. Restoring them is called Project Whenua. --Fippede 15:54, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Masks

If the Helryx model mask isn't canon, then what about Krakua's Hau-shaped Suletu? According to the Suletu page, the model mask isn't a canon depiction either. Maybe Media:Krakua Suletu.png should be deleted, too? -- Toa Jala Converse 01:20, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Actually Greg once retconned Krakua mask to be a Hau shaped Suletu. But as such the books, mainly the time trap, where vakama can't recognise the mask on him refers to him having a normal shaped Suletu, and I also found an older quote where Greg says that only the model has a Hau, but in the story, the mask is a normal Suletu. — SurelNuva (Talk) 02:51, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
I don't think it's a retcon and more of a forget-con, given that (as far as I've seen) it does not refer back to the old statement. Additionally, Takanuva identifies his power by the mask shape in Legends 10. One key difference between Krakua and Helryx is that the Krakua model is the canon representation, even if it is inaccurate, where as the Helryx MOC - to be clear - is not canon, only the art is. This is why it is being referred to as the "inspirational model." (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!) ~ Wolk (talk) 06:27, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
That's the other reason. Krakua didn't have an art contest to retcon (redeem to be better pehaps) the moc/mask, like helryx. (let's make an art contest for the shape of the real suletu, because the 2006 version is organic and probably damaged.)
Sarcasm and my preference that only art contests could have been needed for every character, who weas masks that weren't made aside, I agree with Wolks. Krakua, the moc itself, was built to be canon, and it only wears a Hau, because he needed to wear a mask, while *only* the artwork of Helryx is canon, the moc it was based on, is not. If the Helryx moc didn't even wear a mask, the TTV still would have made an art contest, as only the the artwork was planned to be canon, not the moc. — SurelNuva (Talk) 07:59, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining. -- Toa Jala Converse 18:06, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Dates on Canon Contests

Hey there, sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you remembered or could find the dates (mainly years) for some of the older fan-canonized contests? I’m working on my own user page with the fan-canon and this information would tremendously help. -- FirespitterVakama 11:55 AM, 21 April 2021 (EST)

Just a quick update, but the ones I’m specifically looking for is Nikila, Tobduk, Certavus, and Teridax (The Melding Alternate Universe). -- FirespitterVakama 11:59 AM, 21 April 2021 (EST)
I'd have to get back to you on that, it'd take some time to dig for a lot of that. --external image Owner (talk|contribs)

Minor Deletion

Is there a way to delete empty page without submitting a proposal to the Articles for Deletion? Specifically the discussion page for Niazesk that I accidentally created? Firespitter Lhii (talk) 13:52, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Done! If you were wondering about what the [sic] in the quote means, it indicates that the typo in the quote ("t he" for "the") is part of the original text and not an error made when adding it to the wiki. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 17:43, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Standards for Grammar, Spelling, and Linguistics

Oxford commas are the standard on here, correct? Firespitter Lhii (talk) 18:13, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

I tend to believe so, but if there are many instances where this is not the case, I'm not sure who would have the time go to through and fix them, depending on how many there are. --external image Owner (talk|contribs) 22:08, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Adding Images

Hey there! I was hoping you could help me. I want to post the photos from the links below, but I do not know how to upload them nor do I know what has to be done to get the rights for them. Some of them are prototypes, and one of them is of a brick-built Vezok Statue that has no source or images where it is mentioned on this site. I was wondering if you could help with that.

Prototype Nui-Rama:

Also, since one page mentions the Vezok Statue, I think all images found on the following link should be uploaded. It may be better to upload the images and put them on the gallery, and remove the mention on the Vezok page. http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/18358-large-scale-bionicle-sculptures/

NOTE - I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE IMAGES ABOVE, AND SOME IF NOT ALL ARE NOT UNDER THE CREATIVE COMMONS LICENCE Firespitter Lhii (talk) 02:35, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

I want to change my username, but I’m not sure if changing them is allowed. Couldn’t I just create a new account, and redirect my former accounts’ profile page and sandbox to a new one? Order of Sections on Pages

I was working on adding a note to the Akilini page, but I realized that there is no consistent order for the sections at the end of pages. Here are some examples:
Sahmad - Appearances, Trivia, See Also, Notes, References
Bionicle: The Legend of Mata Nui - Trivia, Notes, References, See Also
Fa-Matoran - Trivia, References, Notes
I can fix whichever ones are incorrect, but I don't know the correct order, and thus I also don't know where to add the Notes on the Akilini Page. If you know the answer, let me know. However, there seems to be no place on the wiki stating the "Correct" order. Firespitter Lhii (talk) 14:42, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Trivia, Apperances, References, Notes, See Also, is the usual order. Please do fix anywhere this pops up. ~ Wolk (talk) 16:25, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Missing modules

Hi! It seems like several vital Mediawiki modules are missin in the wiki such as Reply to and Media Viewer. Can they be added and (if necessary) Mediawiki updated?--VectorVoyager (talk) 10:49, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing those out.
I've installed mw:Extension:MultimediaViewer. Currently it's disabled for anonymous users, and logged-in users can flip it on inside Special:Preferences -> Appearance. Do you (and others reading) think the feature should be enabled by default? If there's interest, I can easily change the default setting.
I don't think BS01 would particularly benefit from Template:Reply to since it doesn't add a new feature.
Are there other MediaWiki features/extensions you think would be useful? If so, let me know, and I'll check them out. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 01:55, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
