The only known writing in Metru Nui that spoke of this place was in the Great Temple in Ga-Metru. This writing said to "follow the falling tears to Ko-Metru until they reach the sky." This referred to a river which started at the Great Temple and traveled across Metru Nui to Ko-Metru where the river froze, forming Keetongu's Lair.

The mysterious Rahi, Keetongu, resided here for some time before the Great Cataclysm struck Metru Nui. After the Toa Metru were mutated into Toa Hordika, the Rahaga enlisted Nokama, Matau, Onewa, Whenua and Nuju to guard the Great Temple while they searched for clues to Keetongu's whereabouts. Inside, Rahaga Gaaki was able to record a transcription of the verse before Vakama's attack of the temple. Observing the streams of Liquid Protodermis trickling from the architectural eyes of the Great Temple, the five Toa Hordika followed a path through a forest in Ga-Metru, the deserts of Po-Metru and the surface of Onu-Metru until they reached the lair.

Inside, the five Toa Hordika discovered Keetongu and convinced him to join in their quest to save the Matoran.

After a fragment of Aqua Magna struck the Mata Nui Robot, Keetongu's Lair, along with the rest of Metru Nui, was severely damaged. Later, the lair, along with all other locations in the Matoran Universe, was dismantled.[4][5]
