BIONICLE: Mask of Creation is a mobile game developed by Frima Studios and released by the LEGO Group on January 1, 2015 for Android and iOS devices. It was free to buy.

After Bionicle Generation 2 got canceled in 2016, the app is no longer available for download on app stores, but the app remains available if the user had previously downloaded it.

Plot

The six elemental heroes called the Masters crash land on the island of Okoto and begin a search for their Golden Masks of Power, encountering many enemies along the way.

In the game's summer 2015 update, when the Toa reach the City of the Mask Makers, they fight against members of the Skull Army there to save Okoto.

Gameplay

The player can choose to control any of the six Toa: Tahu, Kopaka, Onua, Gali, Pohatu or Lewa. After choosing a character, they play through a campaign consisting of five different levels in each Toa's respective biome with the objective of clearing it of Skull Spiders. In the final level of each campaign, the Lord of Skull Spiders appears in a boss level. Players can also unlock different armor pieces to customize their Toa's appearance every day.

When the game was updated with content based on the summer 2015 sets on September 4, 2015, the Skull Warriors were added as enemies. Four more levels, which take place in various parts of the City of the Mask Makers, were added, and each had one of the following bosses in order, Skull Slicer, a Skull Scorpio, Skull Basher, and Skull Grinder, with Skull Grinder being the final boss. The update also included Ekimu as a hero for the player to control. However, unlike the Toa, Ekimu is limited to being played in the summer content levels. A new orb system that helps replenish the player's hero's abilities was added.

Players navigate around the level via a drag gesture, with the character following their finger. To attack, the player taps on enemies. After taking one hit, the Toa will lose its mask. After taking two hits, the Toa will be knocked unconscious, but the player can recover by rapidly tapping the screen.

Enemies

There are three color variations of Skull Spiders that can appear as enemies, both with and without tails. The color indicates how many hits that the spider can resist. Skull Spiders with tails have the ability to create a spiked shield, which temporarily protects them from harm and hurts the player if they attack it after it is charged.

  • Silver Skull Spider - Takes one hit to defeat
  • Blue Skull Spider - Takes two hits to defeat
  • Green Skull Spider - Takes three hits to defeat
  • Skull Warriors - Using either their Ice Spear or Freeze Bow to attack. Came in the summer 2015 update.

Bosses

Each of the bosses attack while its boss meter is shielded, making it invulverable to the hero's attacks. However, this is limited, as the boss will tire out, making the boss meter's shield disappear, so the hero can damage the boss, though the boss will become active and shield its boss meter again after a moment. Each of the bosses have various methods to attack.

  • Lord of Skull Spiders - Seen in the entrance to the City of the Mask Makers. Only the Toa can fight him.
  • Skull Slicer - Seen in the city's arena.
  • Skull Scorpio - Seen in the city's graveyard.
  • Skull Basher - Seen in the entrance of Ekimu's forge in the city.
  • Skull Grinder - The true final boss. Seen in the forge.

Abilities

The player has access to several abilities, which are charged by defeating Skull Spiders.

  • Power Up - This attack has two levels that can be charged to. The player releases a small elemental blast area of effect attack if one level is charged. If two charges have been accumulated, the area is larger and the Toa will automatically dash around the screen attacking any spiders beyond its radius.
  • Protector - The player can also summon their Toa's respective Protector to join them in battle. The Protectors temporarily knock out all nearby Skull Spiders. If the Toa is wearing a Golden Mask, the Toa will attack in the powered up form instead of the Protector.
  • Golden Mask - After retrieving it during the campaign, the player can don their Golden Mask in subsequent levels by accumulating hits on enemies, which is represented by an energy bar. Taking any damage will reset the bar.
