Kivi is a Po-Matoran native to Metru Nui.
Biography
Metru Nui
On Metru Nui, Kivi lived in Po-Metru and worked as a Chute Station Attendant. At Chute Station 445, some time before the Great Cataclysm, Kivi alerted Ahkmou to the fact that the Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka were looking for him, which encouraged him to join Toa Metru Onewa and the other Toa on their quest for the Great Disks.[2]
Kivi was later captured by the Vahki under the command of Makuta Teridax, who was disguised as Turaga Dume. He was then forced into a Matoran Sphere but was later rescued by the Toa Metru and awakened on the shores of Naho Bay on the island of Mata Nui.[3][4]
Mata Nui
Kivi lost his memory of his previous life and decreased physically in size and strength due to his time in a Matoran Sphere. Early during the Dark Time, led by Onewa, he and the other Po-Matoran constructed Po-Koro from reused fragments of Airships that had been used for the mass transportation of the Matoran to Mata Nui.[5]
On Mata Nui, Kivi was a stone hewer and worked hard in Po-Koro to ensure that all stones were ready for carving.[6]
Kivi was, along with the other Po-Matoran, evacuated to Ga-Koro after Tahnok swarms attempted to destroy Po-Koro. After the Pahrak swarms threatened the Matoran in Ga-Koro, Kivi made a final attempt to withstand the Bohrok along with all the other Matoran present before the Bahrag were defeated by the Toa Mata and the Bohrok Invasion ended. He later went back with the other Po-Matoran to Po-Koro.[7][8][9] Kivi was later rebuilt with the other Matoran during the Rebuilding.[10]
Return to Metru Nui
When the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, Kivi helped in the construction of the boats needed to make the trip across the Silver Sea.[11] Upon arrival, he participated in the citywide work intended to restore Metru Nui to its state prior to the Great Cataclysm. He temporarily stopped his work of reconstruction on order of Jaller, to force the Turaga to reveal where the Toa Nuva had gone, but he eventually got back to work.[12]
Following Makuta Teridax's conquest of the Matoran Universe, Kivi and the Po-Matoran carvers were given orders by the new "Turaga" Ahkmou to create statues of Teridax.[13] However, after the Battle of Bara Magna, in which Teridax was defeated, the Matoran departed Metru Nui and resettled on Spherus Magna.[14][15]
Trivia
- Kivi means stone in Finnish.
- Kivi is the only Matoran from the Toa Metru Mini Promo CDs who did not appear in Mystery of Metru Nui. On the CD, he alerts Ahkmou that Nidhiki and Krekka are looking for him, while in the book, Ahkmou notices Nidhiki lurking in the shadows behind Onewa on his own.
- Despite Kivi being traditionally featured with a Kaukau in Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle, this was caused by a typo in the game code. Kivi and Nuhrii were accidentally programmed to wear a "Kamau," and because the game couldn't recognize this as being the "Komau" which it had a sprite for, the two Matoran were given the game's default mask, the Kaukau. Peter Mack has since confirmed that only Hahli was intended to wear the Kaukau in the game.[16]
