The Gukko Bird Force was a Le-Matoran-run Military force that worked primarily to defend Le-Koro.[3][4]

History

Kongu and his Kahu taking off

The Gukko Bird Force was a Military force created by the Le-Matoran during the Dark Time, ironically valuing traits previously ridiculed by the Matoran, such as vine swinging[5][6] and riding flying Rahi (a feat once thought impossible).[7] They defended Le-Koro against airborne infected Rahi, so the Force always prepared for aerial battle. Its members rode Gukko birds fitted with mechanical Disk launchers, which the Matoran used to shoot down flying enemies and to attack non-flying enemies from above. The Kahu and Kewa subspecies of the Gukko were likewise used for combat.[8] After the arrival of the Bohrok swarms, the Gukko Bird Force sometimes used Nui-Rama as mounts instead of Gukko.[9]

While the Toa Mata were searching for masks, an entire hive of Nui-Rama kidnapped almost the entire population of Le-Koro, leaving only the Gukko Bird Force and Tamaru. This resistance heard Takua's arrival at Le-Koro and hid, thinking it was another Nui-Rama. However, when Takua played a familiar flutesong, they came out of hiding. Shortly afterwards, the swarm approached once more, and the Gukko Bird Force prepared for the Battle of Le-Wahi. Kongu asked Takua to ride as second since his Kahu could not take off without a disk thrower. Takua and Kongu were able to get into the Nui-Rama hive, but the Kahu they had flown was injured and taken away, and they too were trapped within the hive. The imprisoned Le-Matoran, Toa Lewa, and Turaga Matau were saved when Toa Onua came to confront Toa Lewa, who had been ensnared by the influence of an Infected Kanohi.[8]

The Gukko Bird Force platform

The Gukko Bird Force later fought Rahi which began attacking the village while the Toa were at the Kini-Nui, confronting Teridax. The Rahi then abruptly ceased their attack. The Le-Matoran realized that they had likely gone to beset the Kini-Nui and the Matoran defending it, and therefore came to aid their fellow Matoran, saving the temple.[10]

When the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, the Le-Matoran continued the Gukko Bird Force by protecting Le-Metru.[11]
