Carver
"Po-Koro, city of sand and rock, home of stonewrights and master carvers! Every etching and relief, every carven symbol, a tribute to Mata Nui, Toa Pohatu, and the Principle by which we live."

Carvers are Matoran who carve tools and statues, among other things. Since the carvings are usually made from Stone or Ice, most Carvers are either Po-Matoran or Ko-Matoran.
History
On Metru Nui, the district of Po-Metru was almost entirely devoted to carving. The large, open expanses of this region were known as the Sculpture Fields, because of the concentration of statues and carvings which dominated the landscape. Huge blocks of raw Protodermis were the starting point for Metru Nui sculptures. Carvers worked for weeks and months on one statue.
On Mata Nui, Carvers were most common in Po-Koro. Whereas Ko-Matoran Ice Carvers kept and displayed their work in Ko-Koro, Po-Koro Carvers usually sent their creations with Traders to be sold at other marketplaces, like the Onu-Koro bazaar, or at small kiosks in the Motara Desert. The profession of Carving was represented by the Chisel.
During the Dark Time, a conflict occurred between Po-Matoran Carvers and Onu-Matoran Miners after a miner made a observation about the quality of specific carvings. The Po-Matoran took exception to the comment and criticized the miners for inferior stone. The argument rose until Matoran began throwing rocks, shovels, and hammers between the two camps, forcing the Turaga to intervene. They devised a competition to settle the dispute, which evolved into the game of koli.
After the arrival of the Toa Mata, carving almost came to a halt due to the Po-Koro Epidemic. Instead of creating art, Turaga Onewa and other Carvers were fashioning beds to help the sickly Po-Matoran. Takua managed to solve the mystery of the epidemic, however, and carving resumed. Later, Kopeke the Ice Carver demonstrated his great ability in the crafting of a key for the Gate of Ice. Hafu also lent his carving skills to the clearing of a path to the Kini-Nui for the Chronicler's Company to pass through.
When the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, Carvers resumed work in the Sculpture Fields.
Master Carver
The Master Carver was a title attributed to the Po-Matoran whose works exhibited the finest craftsmanship. Hafu was the Master Carver of Po-Koro.
