The Battle in the Sky was a battle in the skies of Karda Nui between the Phantoka Toa Nuva and Makuta.

• Defeat the Makuta, and save Karda Nui and its Matoran.

• Defeat the Toa and corrupt the remaining Av-Matoran.

Summary

The five Makuta, Antroz, Vamprah, Chirox, Mutran, and Icarax, launched a full attack on the remaining Av-Matoran village, bypassing the protective Lightvines using their combined powers of Shadow.

When the Makuta broke through the defenses, they quickly stormed into a shelter where they thought the Toa Nuva and Matoran were. To their surprise, there was nobody there. It was then that Vamprah noticed a Shadow Matoran tied up in Lightvines in a nearby village. After freeing the Matoran, it became clear to the Makuta that the Toa and the Av-Matoran colony were not in a village at all, and were actually at the Makuta's field base retrieving the third Keystone.

The Makuta went after the Toa and Matoran, and a large battle took place. While the Av-Matoran fought the Shadow Matoran, the Toa and Ignika battled the Makuta. During the battle, Pohatu and Photok were pulled downwards by Icarax using his Gravity powers. However, the pair stopped their descent by diving through a small stalactite, escaping from Icarax's field of vision, and thus the attack.

In the course of the battle, Antroz's armor became cracked and his essence began to leak from it when his vision power was reflected back at him, and he was ordered to go to the Swamp of Secrets by Icarax. Icarax himself was painfully devolved by the Ignika into a biomechanical form, and was forced to flee in pain. While Vamprah and Chirox remained fighting, it became clear to Mutran that their chances of victory were slim. Consequently, he unleashed a devastating blast of Shadow to distract the Toa and buy time for a retreat.

Aftermath

After creating his blast of Shadow, Mutran ordered Vican to tell the other Makuta to retreat to the Swamp in order to meet up with the others. Mutran was then interrogated by the Toa as to where the other Makuta had gone, and the Toa then proceeded to the swamp below to meet up with Tahu, Gali, and Onua.
