Product Description

The following is a product description taken directly from LEGO. View the source here
Collect the Masks of Power!
The Masks of Power add to the skills and wisdom of the Toa. Each Toa must collect six Great Masks of Power in their own color before challenging the might of Makuta! The set contains two masks, plus a head and pole for display.

Set Information

The box of 8525

The Kanohi set includes two randomly packed Kanohi Masks (either Great or Noble), and the pieces needed to make a head to mount one of them on - a headpiece, a randomly-colored eyepiece (out of the six colors found in other 2001 sets), a three-stud-long axles to mount the head on, as well as a second, spare axle. The set consists of six pieces in total.

Set 8525 was released in North America, and came in a box. Set 8530 was released in other parts of the world and came in a polybag. One of six different eye colors were depicted on the polybag, referencing the eyestalk colors of the set. However, the randomization of the packaging was separate from that of the eyestalk.

Set 8530 was included in K8534 Toa Kaita Akamai[3] and 8525 was included with K8525 Ultimate Bionicle Collectors Set.[4]

Features

Using the axle and head included in the set, one of the masks could be mounted on the canister lids of the Toa Mata sets.

Collectibles

Kanohi Mask packs contain two randomly packaged Kanohi. Worldwide, the possible Kanohi could include any out of 73 different masks.

As a result of miscommunication between production teams, the first edition of the international mask pack, 8530, included a different selection of 48 masks.[5][6][7] The Toa-colored Ruru and Matatu, as well as the transparent neon yellow and transparent medium blue Kaukau, available through this release were not present in later editions. 8525 was unaffaced by this due to its later launch.

The 73 masks found in 8525 and most copies of 8530 were:

Trivia

  • No set name was given for this set on the packaging. The American version was known as 8525 BIONICLE Masks on LEGO.shop and in Shop At Home catalogs.[1][8][9] In some UK catalogs, the international set was called as 8530 Kanohi,[10][11] which is also used on Bricks & Pieces.[2] However, in a UK LEGO Shop advertisment, the set is called 8530 BIONICLE Masks, matching the American name.[3]
