Toa Nuparu's Guide to Voya Nui was an article in the July-August 2006 issue of the LEGO Magazine. The article showcased the 2006 playsets (minus 8624 Race for the Mask of Life) from the perspective of Toa Inika Nuparu.

Contents

As the aerial scout for the Toa Inika, I've had the chance to study some of the most important locations on the island of Voya Nui. Add to that the legends shared by the Matoran and the mysterious being called Axonn, and I can share some secrets that might just save Toa lives.

Piraka Stronghold

This fortress is the headquarters of the evil Piraka. It's here that they keep the antidermis virus they used to enslave the Matoran. We know we will have to drive them out of there if we want to win the fight ... but so far, I don't see how we'll do it.

  • Protected by zamor sphere launchers and strong gates.
  • Largest building on the island.
  • Defended by all six Piraka.
  • Built for the Piraka by the Matoran before they realized the villains' true natures.
  • At least one other attempt was made to attack this fortress, by the Toa Nuva and the Matoran resistance - they were defeated.

Piraka Outpost

Close to a dozen of these outposts dot Voya Nui. They were built by the Piraka to defend approaches to their stronghold. We are going to have to destroy at least a few of them if we hope to take the Piraka's headquarters.

  • Protected by automated guardians called Nektann.
  • Some Nektann are fixed, and some are mobile.
  • Jaller is relying on spider-like Rahi called "Fenrakk Spawn" to help us smash these outposts, but I am not sure how far we can trust these creatures.

Lava Chamber Gate

I have never actually seen this structure, but Axonn has described it. Just before you reach the chamber that holds the Mask of Life, there is a great bridge over a river of lava. At the end of the bridge is a small gateway that leads to the mask's hiding place. We will need to get across the bridge to achieve our goal ... if we make it that far.

  • The bridge is incredibly ancient and not very stable - so there is the danger that a well-balanced blast of power could bring it down.
  • If the Piraka reach the bridge first, they will no doubt set up zamor sphere launchers to defend it against us.
  • Once over the bridge, we just have to raise the gateway and our quest will be almost finished!
