"Deep into Darkness", also known by its cover text "Trapped... by the Rahi!", is the second comic in the BIONICLE series.

Synopsis

The comic begins with the Turaga recounting the The Legend of Mata Nui. Elsewhere, Lewa saves Gali from a pond, briefly discussing it, and asks Gali what she thinks about the other Toa. Gali replies that she regrets the Toa were not working together, a point which Lewa refuses to acknowledge and departs to continue his search for more Kanohi masks.

With Lewa gone, Gali returns to swimming in the sea when a Tarakava attacks her. The Toa of Water lures it into a sea cave and blocks the entrance, sealing the Rahi inside.

Meanwhile, Lewa returns to Le-Koro, where he learns, much to his displeasure, of a Kanohi Kakama, which is located underwater. Lewa then leaves for a cavern that leads to the sea, only to find the cavern's entrance is blocked by a Nui-Jaga. Lewa uses his Air powers to bury the Rahi in vines and other vegetation, and enters the cavern and to the sea. As he is searching for the mask, Lewa is almost drowned by a plant, which is controlled by Makuta Teridax. He uses his Axe to free himself, goes back up for some air, then resumes his task and eventually succeeds in finding the Kakama.

At the same time, Gali scales a high mountain to find the Kanohi Miru, Mask of Levitation. Just as she reaches out for the mask, Teridax makes the mountain crumble. However, Gali manages to grab the mask and levitate down to safety, but finds herself between two Nui-Jaga and two Tarakava upon landing.

Meanwhile, levitating high in the air, Lewa is caught off-guard by a Nui-Rama, who knocks Lewa's mask off into the air. He is then attacked by a Muaka upon falling to the ground.

Trivia

  • After running into the Tarakava, Gali notes that she is only able to identify Rahi due to Kopaka having described it to her. However, other sources depict encounters with Rahi that occur before this issue takes place chronologically.[citation needed]
