A Firestaff is a tool that was used by mask and tool makers from Ta-Metru as well as Tahnok Va. The heads of the staffs could reach extremely high temperatures, allowing Ta-Matoran to soften, weld, and shape protodermis into masks and other items.[3] In addition to creating intense heat, Firestaffs can also give off intense bursts of light that can temporarily stun certain Rahi.[1]

History

Matoran Vakama attempting to craft the Kanohi Vahi using a Firestaff

Vakama's Firestaff

While still a Matoran, Vakama used a Firestaff to make masks. He kept it after he became a Toa, and later used it to create the Kanohi Vahi during his adventures as a Toa Metru.[4] After becoming a Turaga, Vakama continued to use his Firestaff as his Badge of Office and a walking stick.[2] During the Great War, the Firestaff was lost while Vakama was fighting Rahi, but was recovered by Takua in Onu-Koro and returned to Vakama.[1] This staff was also known as the Great Firestaff,[5] or the Ancient Firestaff.[6]

Lhikan's Firestaff

After Lhikan became a Turaga, he used a Firestaff as his Badge of Office.[4]

Example Usage

Vakama used his Firestaff to create the Kanohi Vahi in Legends of Metru Nui.

Set Information

Turaga Vakama's Firestaff was included in 8540 Vakama released in 2001.

The promotional set 7216 "Gold Good Guy", while originally non-canon, was later accepted to be Turaga Lhikan along with the figure's staff, which consists of 2 pieces, to be Lhikan's Firestaff.[7]

Trivia

  • Tahnok Va use Firestaffs to see their way through dark areas and to defend themselves.[8]
