The Climbing Claws,[1] also known as the Kodan Climbing Claws,[2] were Toa Nuva Pohatu's Toa Tools. He possessed multiple sets of Climbing Claws, replicated by Matoran carvers from Po-Koro.[3] When Pohatu received his Adaptive Armor, the Climbing Claws were replaced with his new Twin Propellers.

Functionality

Pohatu commonly used the Climbing Claws to climb the canyons in Po-Wahi. The Claws were articulated, allowing them to grasp objects,[4][5] could be used as handcuffs,[6] and could combine to form the Kodan Ball, which Pohatu could kick with his Feet Additions. He had extremely accurate aim with throwing the Claws.

Kodan Ball

The Kodan Ball[2] was a Toa Tool that could be formed by combining Pohatu's Climbing Claws. The ball is very finely balanced, allowing for precise control of its trajectory.[7] It was named after the Po-Matoran Kodan, Metru Nui's former Chronicler, at the suggestion of Turaga Onewa because its shape and size resembled the sphere used in the earliest version of Akilini.[8]

Example Usage

In Mask of Light, Pohatu threw the Climbing Claws to pin Turahk's hands to a stone column.

In Tales of the Masks, Pohatu formed and kicked his Kodan Ball, breaking off several stalactites, dropping them on Rahi Nui.

Set Information

The set form of the Climbing Claws

The Climbing Claws were released in the 8568 Pohatu Nuva set of 2002. They could be joined together to make the Kodan Ball using two pins on the set's arms. The ball served as a projectile to be kicked using the set's action feature.
