Set 8990 Fero & Skirmix is a special edition large set released in 2009, portraying the Bone Hunter Fero and his Rock Steed Skirmix.

Fear the coming of Fero!
The fierce hunter Fero rides across the desert sands on his rock steed Skirmix, searching for Glatorian to capture and bring back to the arena in Roxtus. Anyone who manages to avoid Fero's spiked Thornax launcher must deal with Skirmix's savage jaws and stinger tail! Includes one Life Counter for the new BIONICLE battle game.

Set Information

The set contains 148 pieces. 19 of these are used to build Fero, with the remaining 129 being used for Skirmix.

The set can be combined with 8979 Malum to create a Sand Stalker.

At least three different versions of the set exist. In the US, the original winter wave version of the set was sold exclusively at Wal-Mart^{[citation needed]} and the online LEGO Shop,^[3] marketed as a "Special Edition" sets.^[4] However, the international version of the set was not marketed as Special Edition.^[5] A summer wave version of the set (promoting BIONICLE: The Legend Reborn) was released in the US with slightly altered packaging. Like the Wal-Mart version, this release was also marketed as a "Special Edition" set. The contents of the set remain the same across all three versions.

Features

Fero wields a Thornax Launcher and can be attached to Skirmix's back with a red axle. Fero shares Skirmix's "life counter" in the BIONICLE Action Figure Game. In the game, his life counter is reduced by two life points if Fero rather than Skirmix is struck by an opponent's Thornax.

Collectibles

Fero wears a Skrall helmet.
