OGDT Download
Who is the beautiful person who added the link to download the original text of the Greg discussion topics? Where was that rescued from? It's even in the original BB code... —Planetperson 14:31, 16 March 2017 (CET)
- User:OnionShark, I think, but I'm not sure. —Surel—Nuva (Talk) 18:01, 16 March 2017 (CET)
- Yeah, it was me, I got it from the Official Greg Compendium BZP topic from back in 2014. Thank you for the kind words, Planetperson. ~OnionShark 08:59, 20 May 2017 (CET)
Dark Hunter Contest
Big news here! (Can't add it now, pressed for time.) --Angel Bob (talk) 21:21, 11 December 2014 (CET)
- And that means....?? --IgniToa (talk) 22:03, 11 December 2014 (CET)
- Every single Dark Hunter character derived from that contest notes in their article that Greg created their role in the story (and I believe the same is true for the Rahi). I wouldn't call it big news at all, but it does mean a healthy amount of editing is needed. It's a relatively simple change (just basically follow the example here exactly), but does need done in quite a few places. --~|RC|~ (Talk/Contribs)
- We don't know which characters had their names/backstories changed by Greg (and by Jeff James for the Rahi book) so I think it'd be best to say something like this:

- "The _____ model and character was created by _____ and sent in to The LEGO Group as part of the Dark-Hunter Building Contest. As a contest winner, his/her/their entry was adapted into the BIONICLE storyline and made an appearance in _____."
- "Character" here refers to the personality, backstory, etc. without going into specifics. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 02:16, 12 December 2014 (CET)
That^ works for me. I'm honestly surprised I never noticed that it was anything different before; I could have sworn that we knew they were fan backstories (how else do you explain the stupidly overpowered characters who have less than creative models?). -- Dorek Talk 04:37, 12 December 2014 (CET)
Other S&T contests
There are other S&T contests from BZP. What are the status of those? #3 What If?, #5 BIONICLE Time Capsule, and #6 A Thousand Years Untold 2. Cheesy Mac n Cheese (talk) 06:26, 3 January 2015 (CET)
- The first two had no impact on the story and thus no need to be mentioned here. --~|RC|~ (Talk/Contribs)
- What If and Time Capsule weren't directly for affecting canon, so that's why they're not mentioned. 6 is a little more iffy (especially now that Greg is back in the picture) but I gave my thoughts on that here a few years ago. I suppose it could change since Greg is available, but I'm still a little bullish on it. -- Dorek Talk 06:35, 3 January 2015 (CET)
- Would it be worth asking Greg about? He probably won't remember it, but still? Also, what was Time Capsule? All the BZP pages have been lost, and I'm pretty sure it happened during the period I was inactive. Cheesy Mac n Cheese (talk) 07:18, 3 January 2015 (CET)
- I don't particularly remember what it was about, sorry. Ask around on BZP, somebody might be able to dig up a record?
- I asked him, he said he doesn't remember seeing them, and unless he sees them, he can't canonize them. So I guess not. Cheesy Mac n Cheese (talk) 03:25, 6 January 2015 (CET)
- Well, that was part of my problem initially, in that they said they had it set up so it wouldn't necessarily need his "final approval", but I guess he'd like it all the same. As I mentioned before, what with BZP's crash and everything, the timing just wasn't quite right. -- Dorek Talk 04:02, 6 January 2015 (CET)
Videos
So, I found a lot of old commercials, animations and TV spots on this two YouTube channels: Krexa Productions and La Voix d'Ekimu. Could we use those as the links for the videos or not? — Surel—Nuva (Talk) 20:09, 20 March 2017 (CET)
- probably for now that'd be okay. but it would be best if we could have the original files - maybe we could reach out to those youtube account holders and see if they can give us the original copies, or tell us where they got them from? primary sourcing is always better. Intelligence4 (talk) 16:07, 17 April 2017 (CET)
Official Greg Discussion Archive
If it interests you, I recently put up a website where you can browse the original OGD topics from BZPower and link to individual posts.
—Planetperson 06:17, 17 May 2017 (CET)
- Excellent, thank you! @Everyone, let's talk about how to add this into the current GregCitation system. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 15:19, 17 May 2017 (CET)
- If there's any way that we can link to specific posts I suggest linking to them as normal references and delete the GregCitation template. If not, then I'm not aure what we could do with this, I think it would be the same as now with the only difference being that the quotes are online and do not require a download. I'm gonna add the site to our external links (if it hasn't been added already, I haven't checked the page). ~OnionShark 09:06, 20 May 2017 (CET)
- Yes, there's a link in the upper right of each post that you can use as the permanent URL. Just click on it and copy the address from the address bar. —Planetperson 19:19, 20 May 2017 (CET)
This is pretty dang fantastic. Is the site something that you're paying for the hosting on yourself, or something else? what did you use to build the site? if it's something that's here to stay, we should absolutely use this in our citations. that said, i think we should also continue citing the original source for wherever greg answered something, so that we continue to cite primary sources for everything to keep our sourcing integrity. (not that this new site doesn't have integrity, but it's just a copy of all the stuff that greg said, instead of the actual links to what he said (which are unfortunately not around anymore)). does the site include all the stuff he said on the lego message boards as recently as this year? Intelligence4 (talk) 21:28, 20 May 2017 (CET)
- oh man there's some serious gold in that archive. i was nosing around and there's a question from 2003 about the "comet ball traitor" - the person wanted to know if he'd show up again, and greg said probably not, since he was such a minor character. i'm assuming that back then we didn't know he was ahkmou? Intelligence4 (talk) 21:33, 20 May 2017 (CET)
- There are a lot of things we didn't know. IIRC, Ahkmou's name was only revealed in MNOG2, and his reason for working with Makuta wasn't revealed until the end of 2005 (in Time Trap). You'll probably find a lot of contradictions and reversals in those archives, too - Greg's opinions and ideas have changed a lot over the years. Pleasant reading! --Angel Bob (talk) 21:46, 20 May 2017 (CET)
- Thanks guys :) I'm hosting it on a personal shared hosting account, yes. I don't think it will have too much traffic, so I don't mind keeping it there. The answer to your second question is "lots of code." I plan on keeping the site up permanently -- even if I decide to go with a different host in the future, it's very easy to redeploy, and I can keep the domain of course. BTW, there is a link in the upper left of each page to the archived version on web.archive.org, if one exists (it doesn't for the vast majority of pages). I am actively working on putting up the LMB too, maybe in a couple weeks or so. —Planetperson 01:37, 21 May 2017 (CET)
- @bob, i don't recall, when he was named in 2004, did we know that he was the same matoran seen in the MNOG the previous year? I remember what happened at the end of time trap, but i guess i always just assumed we assumed he worked with makuta because he was a generally shady character, as seen before his memories were wiped. (then again, his memories weren't wiped like the others, were they? since he was woken up by makuta, didn't many of his memories stay intact?)
- @planet that's great news to hear :) Did you use any sort of platform for your code, or are you just coding from scratch? which coding language are you using? (p.s. i misread your name as "plant person" and now associate your name with bo-matoran/toa and the color green lol.)Intelligence4 (talk) 21:09, 21 May 2017 (CET)
- You could say I did it from scratch (it's not a very complicated site). I wrote a Python program to parse fishers64's text files and generate properly formatted HTML pages from them. —Planetperson 22:40, 21 May 2017 (CET)
Hey Planetperson, if hosting ever becomes an issue, just let me know. I'm more than happy to share some of our (virtually unlimited) bandwidth and filespace for the site if it becomes a problem. Not sure how'd we do the domain, but let's hope that doesn't come up ^_^ -- Owner (talk|contribs)
- Cool, thanks for the offer Swert! —Planetperson 22:40, 21 May 2017 (CET)
FYI, I just added the entire "Chat with Greg Farshtey" topic from LMB to the site: [1]. —Planetperson 06:17, 22 June 2017 (CET)
- So, as I mentioned before/earlier (I just cannot find where exactly) the OGD document date format and the website's date format don't mach with each other. The new site uses one more comma after the days what the documents don't. Morris said I should mention it there, so I just did, to avoid a mass chain-edit. — Surel—Nuva (Talk) 10:41, 30 June 2017 (CET)
Lesovikk's Hiatus: Of Rahi and Toa
Alright, for starters, I'm pretty sure the correct title is "Of Rahi and Toa" rather than "On Rahi and Toa". Secondly, unlike "Jovan's Test" and "The Chronicle", "Of Rahi and Toa" has not been linked. I am unsure why or whether or not there is any reason to it, which is why I'm leaving this here. http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/8529-of-rahi-and-toa-lesovikk-contest/ Forgot to add signature, whops --~ Wolk (talk) 22:09, 8 August 2017 (CET)
Contests & Fan Contributions
With the removal of a lot from this page, we should move the information on fan contests somewhere else. Afaik, it's not covered anywhere; the contest/competitions page only covers those hosted by LEGO. ~ Wolk (talk) 16:36, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- I moved it to the BIONICLE page! Definitely don't want to get rid of the information, but I think it's a better fit there. -- Dorek Talk 17:28, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
